Enermax PSU holding back your overclock?

I was thinking of going for an Enermax because I think my 300W Sparkle is giving me stability problems at 1600Mhz+. Maybe I will go for an alternative make.

Kinda strange, since the article recommends a supply that does not say AMD Approved. Just go through the products on Enermax's site, and it clearly has "AMD Approved" logos for the ones that are. I ordered the 431Watt supply from newegg for $80. Newegg's site said it was AMD Approved, and Enermax's site says AMD Approved for that supply, the EG465P-VE 431W.
I am assuming it is a good supply.

Then again, I may be wrong! The same model, with a -FC (for fan control) at the end, IS AMD APPROVED. Still don't know about the one at newegg.

Nohr - Thanks for doing the link thing. Being new here, I have not figured out all of this particular boards features.

can't quite remember who they were...but i've seen a lot of ppl using the enermax and recommending...your stability problems could come from the fact that your voltage settings may be too low or heat.

I'm using an Enermax 651 whatever model number it was, and so far its pretty good with my AMD thing. But I better remember to keep this in mind. Never had a PS problem before though, and I'm hoping I'll never have one

oh and i checked the article...they ordered their stuff from bzboyz.com...check their reseller rating...not a quality place to receive quality merchandise in good condition. I retracted my order for my chip with them...compuwiz is the one who told me about them in the first place.

BTW...i don't understand how 550 W's of a quality P/S is not enough...what is? 1000 W!!?? I seriously think it's your setup for OC...what kind of mobo? mem timings? AXIA what?...you said the it posted 1540 did you run some benchmark tests? I highly doubt it's the PS...actually...i'm gonna say it...it's not your PS. I really think it's your setup...

KT7A-R with 512 megs of CAS2 Crucial PC133 and all of the fast timing tricks the Abit board provides. Cooling by Danger Den Maze 2.2, Danner Mag 7 and four feet of "Bong" cooler. The chip did not just post at 1575 MHz, it completed the Prime torture test and was rock solid for several days. I thought the problem might be electromigration but the article I mentioned in the first post may offer an explaination. Read the article. As time allows this week, I will try a different PSU and post the results, not that they will be conclusive. I have had three AXIA chips that were not screamers.

BTW, the 651 is rated at 530 watts, not 550.

OH MY GOSH...20 W's...wow..i'm sorry...still enuf juice if you ask me...check ur setup man...ppl with the 431 W enermax's are taking 1.33 AHYJA's to the upper 15's and lower 1600 marks.

MrThompson...turn on your Private Messaging...it's on your profiles link...BTW...what is the stepping on your AXIA's...C's, Y's, K's?
EDIT:
BTW, i have a FMI 400 W P/S from Compusa...and my friends buying it from me cuz i have a 45 dollar credit at newegg cuz they sent me a faulty dvd. So that's why i'm upgrading to enermax...i'm @ 1540...1.33 AYHJA is what i have. So I take it that you think the FMI will do better? we'll see.

I hate PMs. Never remember to check them. Email me at colin@bubblephoto.com. if there is something private. I would rather that it is posted in a public forum so others can benifit. The CPUs are A1200AMS3B AXIA010GPAW 94731150053, A133AMS3C AXIA0110MPMW K054661418 and A133AMS3C AXIA0111MPMW K007515044.

BTW, I have a 400 watt PSU I purchased from Jinco in Southern Kalifornia. It weighs in at about a third more than the Enermax 651. It's going in my main system this week. I should also note that my first 651 may have died as a result of running a 156 watt pelt. It's not the only 651 I am aware of that had trouble after running a 156 watt pelt.

My AYHJA 1.33 runs stable @ 1540...AXIA C's are not suppose to OC that high...They are good but AXIA Y's and AYHJA's are suppose to be the best OCers...one of those AXIA's you have is a AXIA B...those don't OC well to begin with. If you could get your hands on a new chip...try getting a AXIA Y or AHYJA...i think pushing pass 1550 on an AXIA C is a bit overdoing it.

Please note that Club Overclocker has updated the news blurb that started this and retracted their statment about Enermax PSUs.

I knew it...it didn't make sense at all. So i guess this is done and overwith. Mr. Thompson, if you're looking to go higher than 1550+ than i suggest you suggest AYHJA...some ppl are hitting 16's and even that's hard to get. But like compuwiz said...AXIA's haven't been hitting that high...his usually don't even hit 15's. So i think that's your problem right there. BTW, what are you gonna do with the 3 AXIA'S when AYHJA's are doing better?

I think that 651 that died was one of those defective ones you get once in a while from every manufacturer. 1379 with your AXIA's makes sense to me. If you had an AYHJA i would kinda be worried. But the recent AXIA C's haven't been doing that well. I asked compuwiz...he tests and sells chips...he should know. But i think it could hit 1.4...but that's kinda stretching it too. Should've gone with AYHJA's or waited for Palo's. But then again...you prolly have a good reason for having 3 AXIA's at the same time.

What blows my mind about this chip is it was rock solid at 1575 and then over an eight week period it steadily declined to its current pathetic state. The 1 gig AJFA I bought last December would do 1392! There is a Market Pro show in Fresno this weekend. I am real tempted to pick up an AYHJA. Either this or I may put the dual pelt waterblock back in the system and see if I can pick up a bit more speed out of this old dog.

AYHJA is a good buy...i mean with good cooling...200+ OC is pretty good...especially with a 550 W...dang...i wish i had one of those. Look into it...but at this time...i would wait for the Palo's at this time...only a few months. Sell 2 of those AXIA's for like a 100 bucks each and put it into your "Palomino savings account"!
lol.
