Enermax PS Airflow ?

I have an Enermax 550w power supply and the 80mm fan in the back isn't pushing nearly as much air as the 80mm I have right below it. The thing is, the fan below it is a measly 2700rpm, not even one of the high outputs.

At first I thought maybe it was just a temp sensing thing, but since I put in my 9700Pro I'm having overheating problems now and then, and the fan just puts out the same little amount as usual.

I'm going to order a better fan for the case fan area, but could I also benefit by putting a better fan in the Enermax? I didn't really want to crack that thing open unless I had to, but I only have so many places to place fans in my case, and that's one of them. It also has the 92mm below, but that doesn't seem to pump much air either.

Specs: (You'll understand the heat)
Lian-Li PC-60 (Original model)
Epox 4G4A+
P4 2.66GHz @ 3.0GHz w/Alpha
Corsair PC3500 @ DDR375 (150)
3x 15k Seagate 36GB Cheetah SCSI Drives
Adaptec U160 SCSI RAID Card
2x 3COM 3XP NICs
ATI 9700Pro
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

I have a couple of new case fans (the 2700rpm type) and I'll pop one in tonight if it'll be helpful.

Hi MysticLlama,

Great handle! and cool case 🙂 As for the Enermax. I have one as well, but understand the fans on the power supply are thermatically controlled and for cooling the power supply unit only. The flow you feel would be about right. My psu fan runs about 1700 - 1800 rpm according to MBM5 (motherboard monitor). The ATI 9700 Pro does put out alot off heat because it's using alot of power. That's why the extra power plug from the board to the psu. There are several ways to go here. You could add higher flow rated fans. That will equal more noise. You could also add a blowhole fan or another fan to the rear of the case. This will require modding the case though. Let me know if the case fan you replace the original Adda fans with helps, Ok... 🙂

Take care,
