Enermax Liberty 500W + ATI x1900xtx?

Hi all,
I've been reading reviews on newegg that state that the x1900xtx cards require 30A on the 12v rail to work properly. I'm the exact opposite of a psu guru, so I have no idea how true that might be, so I'm asking here. I bought an Enermax Liberty 500W psu at the suggestion of one of the forum regulars, and I'm going to buy the x1900xtx once it comes back in stock at newegg. However, I want to make sure before I buy it that my new PSU will be capable of handling it. Acording to the box, the 12V1 rail has 22A, the 12V2 rail has 22, and together they have 384W(32A). Does that mean it has enough power for the x1900xtx?

Here's a link to newegg's picture of the Liberty 500's "spec sheet":

More than enough power, and Enermax makes excellent power supplies.

The X1900XTX only consumes ~115W at full load, meaning you would be fine with a good brand 400W power supply (such as the Enermax Liberty 400).

Your PSU is perfect.

Right, that psu is SLi rated, so it will power every single gfx rig you throw at it. Quite sufficiant. As you pointed out, the 12v rails combined are 32amps, and although ATi tells you that you need 30amps, that would be under extreme load, a load that you could not possibly put on it. jiffylube's estimate is a lot better.

I have the exact same PSU :) And bought a x1950xtx :) It draws a bit less power, that the 1900xtx. My card will arrive on monday (bloody couriers don't work on weekends :disgust: ). When I mount it up, I'll fill you in on the effect :p

EDIT: Spelling

Under full load this card should take around 130 watts, so you should be fine with 144watts or 12A for the card.
It also depends upon the rest of the system

I used this PS with my X1900XTX and a Pentium D 920@4.0Ghz. It can easily handle any system with an X1900XTX. I ran this with an X1800XT Crossfire setup for a very short time and it seemed to even run that fine as well.

I heard that the Smart Power has a compatibility with a few motherboards (not sure which? I think they were Conroe boards. Perhaps the P5B?).

That aside, the SmartPower 2.0 is generally a very solid motherboard and you should have no problems.

One thing I've noticed is that Antec's bundled power supplies in cases seem to be of slightly lower quality than their aftermarket PSU's. The Aftermarket ones have nice shielding on wires, thick sheaths for wires etc, while the bundled ones are a bit thinner/weaker.

But with that said, even with a dual core Conroe or X2 and a single X1900XT(X), you should have no problems with an Antec 450W whatsoever. Crossfire might be a bit of a stretch on that PSU.

ATI says 30A on +12V rail because not all PSU's are created the same. Many generic/low quality PSU's are rated in the high 20's but in reality their sustained power draw is much less. They're basically 'covering their @sses', which is the prudent thing to do.

In reality if you've got a true, strong 26A on the +12V rail, you should have no problems running, say an X1900XT.

As I've said before, 400W+ good brand PSU will be plenty to run a dual core CPU and a single X1900 series card.
