One of the fans has an external power connector I'm told, do you need to use it (Both my top fan headers are used for my CPU it's a dual fan heatsink)? Will it run ok if I don't plug this in?

Is the 451P any louder than the 351P? Or are they pretty much the same volume level.

The rear 80mm has an external 3 pin connector that needs to be plugged in. You can use a 3 pin extension and/or a 3to4pin extension if you don't have any connectors but you'll lose the bios on/off ability depending on where you plug in.

I have the EG351P-VE FM version. There is a cable coming out of the power supply that sends RPM info for the 92mm fan, but it does not supply the fan's power. The fan runs regardless, and its RPM is usually so low that Asus Probe can't detect it as turning! I don't know if this is the same with all versions.

I take that to mean it's a rather quiet power supply?

Does anyone know if the 451P is quiet as well? My current 450watt is too loud (it's not obscenely loud, but I'm going on a quiet down my PC quest).

I've got the Enermax 531 Watt version and I noticed that problem in the Asus Probe as well. I'm not sure if it is so slow it can't detect it, but rather that the fan itself doesn't support RPM Monitoring, even though the site I bought it from says it does. I got my PSU at CrazyPC, and YES, they are VERY quiet PSUs. Great bang for the buck.

Before I got my EG451P-VE, I used to hear my PSU over my HSF. With my wonderful Enermax, I sometimes wonder if the fans are even turning. A great PSU.

The fan monitoring doesn't work with my Asus board either. I wondered if it was faulty but it seems not. Not that it matters, so long as the PSU works I have no problem.

this is all very nice to hear, because I'm greatly considering getting an enermax 350w PS at pomona on sunday. I am pretty sure it will be enough power for all my needs, and it seems a LOT quieter than my antec PS. I'm running 6 fans (3x 80mm+1x 92mm on the case, 2x 60mm on my heat sink), ultraplex, tdk 12/10/32, toshiba 5x dvd-rom, geforce2 gts, and 2 HD's, soon to be 3 (ata66/100 only). so far so good with the antec PS, but I wan't something beefier and quieter because my comp is in my bedroom.

Man, I hear ya about the need for a quieter power supply. After replacing all my case fans with panaflos and my goldenorb with an alpha, my power supply is the loudest part of my comp now. Well, I'm assuming it's the power supply. I've got the hs/fan + case fans all hooked up on one connection. So, when I pull the plug on that part, those 3 fans turn off. Anyways, my computer sounds the same with them connected and with them off. Unless my hard drives or something are idling hella loud, the only thing left causing the noise is my power supply. :)

Hi,
The fan on the enermax is hardware monitor capable but the motherboards don't support the low rpms. I have a abit kt7 and I can read the fan rpm of the PS on motherboard monitor but I haver to change the divisor. In bios it doesn't recognize it at all. I used the PS on an asus a7v and it was better in that it would sometimes register the speed in the bios but not always for some reason. oh I have the whisper 330 watt.
