Enermax 430W EG465P-VE Opinions?

Hello,

Hopefully this is in the right section.

I am about to pull the trigger on a Enermax 430W EG465P-VE Dual Fan (431 watt PS), and am just looking for some last minute input. More or less, has anybody had any trouble with this particular power supply? Issue's? Quality control problems? The few reviews I've found seem to be quite good, but I just wanted to drag the waterr for bad experiences before hitting the "buy" button =)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I have the 430w enermax and its been rock solid thus far. Fairly quiet too, but then again, I may not hear it due to my case fans.

+5v line was a little higher, which i didnt mind, as was the +12v line
better for overclocking ;)

from my experience i would buy it again if it was a choice for a psu

I have no problems with mine. It's powering my P4 2.4 and Radeon 9700 Pro just fine. It holds its voltages very well too. I also tried an Antec TruePower 430 and its 12v rail was at 11.6. I gave that one to my brother.

I own that power supply and have had no trouble with it. I tend to think my system is a bit more stable after upgrading to the Enermax, but of course I have no proof of this.

Using that PSU and it powers all my components at correct voltages. The 5v rail is stable. It's quiet too.

You can't go wrong with an Enermax Power supply they make great products. Antec is the other PS maker you can't go wrong with.

I went with ThermalTake... I'll be receiving it sometime this week, I can post comments when I receive it if you guys like... The PurePower 420W has very similar specs to the Antec TruePower430 and is significantly cheaper since I assume they are trying to get some market penetration. I figure ThermalTake is a pretty safe bet since they are pretty well known in the cooling industry. Their power supplies are worth looking at IMHO.

Hey Bordak, welcome to Anandtech.

Being surprised by the Enermax lovefest I went ahead and did a search for you to find some of the numerous complaint threads about Enermax in the past.

Like this one

Or this one about Antec vs Enermax

This man's 431 got noisy

Comparing the voltage stablity Antec vs Enermax

Some comments on RMAing if yours dies

A good old low 5v Enermax

And of course my personal favorite

I've seen fewer complaints about Antec power supplies, though in fairness there are a lot of Enermaxs around so it's to be expected to see a higher percentage of comments good and bad.

Most of the complaints about Enermax have had to do with their 365 model, fewer with the 465, but then we're back to representative numbers too. As for QC, in discussions about noise with case temps about the same one whisper will be quiet, next will be whining like a jet. One will have stable voltages, next will be low.

Are they any worse than generics? Nah. Better? Questionable. More expensive and hyped? Oh yeah. That's my problem with Enermax, not so much that mine died, but that they have this big fan following when really they haven't done anything special. Antecs are quieter and have more stable voltages according to people around here, as for failure rate I don't know, seen threads about both outright dying, but I don't see the 'my Antec's 5v got weak' threads. Those are the two brands I see discussed and compared the most around here. I'm using a boring old single fan Enlight myself and never have to give my PS a second thought anymore.

Should be ok, but keep your receipt and buy from a vendor with a decent return policy just in case. Which you should do for everything really.

Bordak1 welcome to AT forums,I`m using that PSU and the 350w version in my other PC,the 12+ and 5+ rails are solid for me so no problems period.I do believe Enermax have improved on quality and performance in their latest models.

Thought I'd share my experience with ye old Enermaximus, Had a 431W same model ur looking at with the dual fans, ect, very nice but only one problem this thing got real flaky when I started adding a lot of items to my computer. I went from 7x80mm case fans and 1x120 side blower not including cpu and power supply fans (it's quiet, honest) I have 52x burner and a 16x dvd as well as 5 hard drives, P4 2.4, GF2 Ti, various PCI cards, 512MB PC800 RDRAM. In any case under this amount of load it worked fine, if I dropped about 4-6 fans. Now with this much equipment in a large mid tower case I was hesitant and didn't loose any. My mistake, the voltages which had always been unstable really started to really 'jump' around and last week she died. I figure it's cause I finally overloaded it and I expected to with that load, just didn't figure it would take 6 months!

I had to upgrade to an Antec True Power 550. I am completely satisfied because even with many less components when I first built that system last year the voltages used to twitch A LOT. And as for Antec undervolting it's due to the burn-in period that Antec states on their documentation for the True Power Series. It's a good supply just dont' expect to add alot of equipment to you rig.

there are a lot of connectors but i just tucked the extras behind the mobo tray, always good to have extra if i decide to add a bunch of stuff. Anyways i have the 430 with the varible controll and its very quite, i can crank up the fan speed if i have the desire to oc for a bit but than i realize that there is no sane reason to oc a top of the line comp since nothing needs more. It overvolts easily as my Asus P4T533 mobo seems to like to draw extra V.
