Was quiet as can be for 3 days or so, now the exhaust fan WAILS. If I whack it enough, it shuts up, but this isn't a good long-term solution. Should I take it apart and try to find the cause? Or maybe just the fan itself can be replaced? I can't RMA it, i'd hate to not have a PSU for 5 weeks or whatever. Anyone have any advice?

You can try to RMA it. Or spend $10 on a good PanfloL1A fan and do it yourself. DOnt touch the capacitors and you will be fine, I have been in 100 PSU's and look, I am still sane 😉

I take mine apart sometimes.
Just dont do anything stupid and you'll be fine.
You can get some lubrication oil in a pen type applicator at radio shack. take the sticker off the stationary part of the fan and put some oil in there and turn the fan with your hand. seal it back up and it should be better.

Depending on who you bought it through some places will assess the situation and give you another supply straight off the shelf. Personally i'd RMA it, it's possible to void the warranty by poking around inside and it isn't your responsibility to make the PSu work.

of course if you were to have to go 5 weeks without a PSu that would suck big time
