When I leave the computer untouched the monitor and hard drive shuts down according to my power scheme settings.

While working on something else, I notice the hard drive every 10 mins or so will fire up for no reason, then 10 mins or so will shut down.

It does this continually while in this shut down mode.
Any suggestions as why it does this or how to find out why.

Many thanks for any help...

Working on anything at all can trigger a requirement to use the HDD - page file, or whatever. What's the problem?

How can you work on anything when the system is in "shutdown?" When you start working, that gets turned off and the system is activated.

Totally understand.

Have three computers on different, very quiet desks.
This one is behind me and hard drive decides to start up regularly
while my back is too it for no reason and just bugs me as I can't
figure out why!

Now when I need this computer, I just have to touch the mouse
and the system is activated and monitor fires up. Then when I click
on an application, then the hard drive magically kicks in and does
what it does.

I downloaded Process Explorer and there is a little blip under svchost
but have no clue now to use this program to find out what is causing it.
