I can't stand them, they are too sweet and generally loaded with caffeine, yet people buy this shit by the case and consume it like it is water. It can't be doing anyone any favors in the long term. Have there been any studies done on the long term effects of drinking products like Red Bull habitually?

Anyone else avoid this shit like it's the plague?

I enjoy them occasionally but that's probably 1 or 2 a month. Frankly they're too damned expensive. But I do like the taste.

Long term I don't think it's much different than coffee. Hell, coffee is actually worse caffeine wise. It just doesn't have the sugar.

I hate those energy drinks. They are all nasty.

There have been studies on individual ingredients, and mostly the active ingredient is caffeine, which has well known side effects in larger doses.

No drinks but I have tried the little 5-hour energy bottle (rated among the best) before hockey and I swear it doesn't do a damn thing.

Coffee is the only energy drink I need.

Same. I don't drink too much for too long and often go without it for weeks (don't like to get to the point where I get withdrawal headaches going without it). It is nice to drink, though, and a good pick-me-up for times where I can't get enough sleep for whatever reason.

i was walking through the city streets and a man walks up to me and hands me the latest energy drink Run faster, jump higher ;man, I'm not gonna let you poison me
I threw it on the ground

This midget walked up to me,
Said I won the Nigerian lottery,
I threw him to the ground...

I don't drink them, largely because everyone I've ever had tasted terrible, like someone pissed in diet pop. I know people who go through at least 3 a day, usually 6, and often as many as 12. Then they wonder why they have trouble waking up in the morning.

Granted, like someone already said, its probably not any worse than many people's coffee habits, but I don't drink either one (mostly because of taste).

I have to give quixtar credit, as when they wanted to get gullible college students into it, they pushed their energy drinks, which was really effective.

Personal story: I worked with a guy that said when he'd drink redbull and vodka he'd get panic attacks. I just kinda said, yeah, that's weird and sucks, but not a big deal just don't drink that. He then proceeded to tell me that he figured he just needed to drink more of them so he'd drink more and it'd get worse. He finally ended up going to the doctor, I think he had a heart murmur, and the drinks would exacerbate it. So, of course he'd still go and drink vodka and redbull. The guy, quite simply was one of the dumbest people I have ever met. Sad thing is he was generally nice, just really stupid. Scary thing is, he was job hunting and two of the places he was being considered for were a defense contractor and the military (although I think it was for accounting).

I don't drink them much anymore. I'll occassionally have one if I know I have a long day at work, or if I have a long drive (vacation).

When I was in public accounting, I had them all the time, especially during busy season.

I only drink the low-cal/no cal coffee flavored ones (like Monster LoBall). Maybe 2-3 a month when I am up late, I'll grab one on the way to work.

coffee is the only energy drink I need. I haven't had a carbonated beverage in almost a year now outside of champagne.

pro-tip: if you're not chugging caffeine 24/7, you'll actually see it have an effect on you.
