Well I'm not sure, that is what I used, in device management how many items are listed under Other Devices. Post a picture of your device manager page.

One way to find out what audio device you have it to load VISTA (now I assume you can load VISTA) and check DEVICE MANAGER and see what it indicates under SOUND. Post back with what you find.

In Vista, I was able to install the Vista version of the Realtek drivers you provided. When I try to install the XP drivers, it says the setup has completed (takes an unusually short amount of time to install them) and when I restart there is no Realtek control panel or any evidence of a Realtek device in device manager.. interesting.

Also, straight from the readme file included on the Realtek driver page:

Step 1. Before installing the Realtek HD Audio Drivers, Press the
[Cancel] button if Windows detect the Multimedia Audio device.
Step 2. Insert the "Realtek HD Audio Drivers" CD into the CD-ROM
drive and run the setup.exe program to finish the installation.
Step 3. Click on [Next/OK/Go] to continue the procedure. If the Windows popup
"Digital Signature Not Found" message, press [Yes] to continue the
installation.
Step 4. Finally, select to restart the system and press [Finish] to complete
the installation.
The system will reload the drivers and do some adjustments in the INF
file if so required.

Realtek Audio Drivers CD? Can you tell me how you went about installing these drivers for XP? Thanks.

That's interesting under Add/Remove programmes for XP, look for Realtek High definition Audio driver, click on the "CLICK HERE FOR SUPPORT INFORMATION" what version of driver do you see. I have
Publisher: Realtek Semiconductor Corp;
Version: 5.10.0.5449

I have a driver date of 18/07/2007

I'll try those drivers, thanks. It's weird, because when I look in XP after installing the other drivers from Realtek it doesn't even show up in Add or Remove Programs. It just isn't there, as if I didn't install them.. but when I run the setup program for the drivers it seems to have installed normally.. but I'll give those drivers a try. Thanks for the help.

Download and install the Microsoft HD Audio Update 1.0a, then install the Realtek drivers.

I bought Acer Aspire E700 last week and got the same problem when installing windows XP
-- I couldn't find the BIOS option to disable RAID
-- It looks very difficult to install a floppy drive

Anybody can help for the detail steps?

Aspire E700 MMX 1

I have the same PC and issues, before reading this forum i slipstreamed win xp sp2 with the sata drivers, worked a charm. I still can not get sound to work tho, and if i download another copy of WDM_R176 im gonna cry...

all drivers for LAN,SATA and Video were easy.... just sound and the TV card that i trouble in locating. (sound located, but will not work)

i noticed bdc22 has not replied back, if he got it working, woulda been nice to post back what he did, and if was from a suggestion here, a thanks wouldnt go astray!
