At the company I work for we are finally rolling out Office 2000 on all of the employees NT 4.0 computers. It is going fairly well, except some computers get an error message when starting any of their new Office 2000 applications that says "The End User License Agreement isn't installed, would you like to install this feature now?" or something to that effect. The first time this happened we tried saying yes and pointing it to the installation directory on that server that we installed Office 2000 from, but the installer claimed that it wasn't a valid installation file (the .msi file that it was looking for). We have the permium version of office 2000, and on most of the computers it works just fine. Any thoughts on why we're having problems with a few of the computers? Oh, and the computers with problems do not seem to have any software in common as they are spread out among the various groups within the company.

Did you create a custom installation script (MSI) file? How exactly did you put the files on the server? Drag and drop? Or an admin point install?

We were going to use a custom installation script, but we kept having errors doing so (something wrong with the .msi file, I'm not sure what since I wasn't in charge of making it). The files were just dragged and dropped on the server from the installation CD.

I'd really like to, but unfortunitly making chages like that in a corprate environment is a lot more complicated than the phrase "use staroffice" sounds :)

"very odd error message...use staroffice"

Why is it that when something goes wrong everyone always suggests a different piece of software.
Star-Office is NOT that good..not saying MSOffice is better....

Anyway, when you copied the cd to the server, and then ran your installs, did you use any switches?
When installing from a server you hsould use the switch to allow this type of install...i think it is /a

We're not using any switches. But how is installing over the network different than using a CD? It's just a different location for the files.

The install directory on the server...was it made a mapped drive at those workstations? Seem to remember similar issues before...

No, the drive wasn't mapped on the workstations. We just typed in \\servername\off2k\setup.exe under "Run" in the start menu.

We're now installing Service Pack 2 when Office installs, and we're still having the same problems. Just thought I'd let you all know in case someone was going to suggest that we install SP2 for Office.
