....
END SOCIAL SECURITY
This has been the dream of right wingers for decades.
Anti-big govt and free marketers believe that private insurance companies can do a better job than big govt SS. Big financial corps will welcome the billions that will flow right into their hands.

As it turns out, countries which followed that route found that it gave worse outcomes through higher overheads (less economies of scale) and many at the bottom half will end up with less savings at the end. The privatized system will quickly be under pressure of insolvency and probably require a bailout as per the Chilean case.

Yes it should be ended. This month. All seniors who are scraping by can find themselves out on the streets and if they're honorable just slit their own wrists so that we don't need to worry about them. This is great, it would make 'merica strong again.

You think old people are strong enough to slit their own wrists and have enough $ left on them to acquire the proper tools. Slitting your wrists correctly isn't easy.

It isn't the job of government to provide ss, As well in a true free market there would be no bailouts especially for the poor and lazy :D

Let people suffer from there own actions. I shouldn't have to pay for this nonsense.

End social security and get those lazy leeches off of it now :D

Letting people suffer is not what is best for society as a whole. I think teaching accountability is important, but social safety nets are important. I'd wager I pay a fuckton more in taxes then you I'd rather cut defense by half than social security by a dime.

It needs to be overhauled and protected from greedy politicians.

my theory is to taper off social security and end the program. period.

10 years from now, maybe people get 90-95%, 20 years 80-85%, 30 years 50%, 40 years 20%, 50 years nothing. i have absolutely no intention of relying on social security for any form of retirement benefits. i expect it to pay me nothing upon my retirement. i have 20% of my current paycheck (15% mine + 5% matching) going towards my retirement (essentially a 401k)

What's so funny troll? There's no such thing as a true free market in today's world, so cut the trolling or being stupid act out.

And SS is no bailout, educate yourself and stop trolling. If you don't like, move to a country that has no SS or medicare programs and let us know how you like it. I'm sure you'll love a third world country.

Question: Is it possible to get more than you pay in? Like if you're poor? If you're jobless but your spouse has a job? I'm wondering who the leechers of this program are.

At the age of 25 I'd like to be able to opt out. I've maxed out my 401ks since I was 21, and I have a boatload of money. Now if only I could manage my own SS money.

As recent events have shown, its the wealthy and powerful who got bailed out. The bailouts for the poor are miniscule by comparison.

Why is SS necessary? The tenet of capitalism that some businesses will invariably fail means people needs some means of support in order to get back into the game, so it encourages a healthy competitive climate.

Why do the right wingers want to privatize SS? So JP Morgan and their ilk can milk consumers for higher fees and I'll bet all sorts of fine print money grubbing tactics. As the Chilean case has shown, the bottom half can't even retire and they also got shafted because of the flat fee system which meant the ones at the bottom are subsidizing the rich.

I doesn't even need 40 years or your other BS. Raise the friggin cap!!!!!!!!!

Yur done.

It needs to be put on a sustainable footing. May I suggest you look into the system in practice in Chile. You'll see what I mean.

I want to keep the safety net feature I just want it paid for of the long run. he current system is broke.

Bernie Madoff got 150 years for his ponzi scheme, but SS is all good... Go figure! o_O
Maybe we could dust off Al Gore's lock box, have it re-keyed, bury it in the White House lawn and post a couple of guards around it.

Have you read this thread you posted in? Its been pointing out many times that SS is not a ponzi scheme. So refering to it as one just makes you look retarded.

You sound like one of the lucky ones. Either way it seems to me you're young and inexperienced. I highly doubt in 4 years you've been able to put enough money away to live with no other external source of income for 40 years. Because that's what your retirement fund should be.

I agree with the concept that we should do away with the personal cap. I also think all income should be taxed at the same rate. If you make more money, you will just pay more tax. If you dont make enough money you will pay no tax. When it comes to SS it is all a big lie because they take all the SS money and put it in big pot they call general revenue and they spend it on whatever they want. We dont really even have a SS Fund? It is a government Ponsy Scheme.

I think all corporations should also pay SS tax on their income. They are always claiming that corporations are individuals, so give them some individual responsibility?

So I hope everone likes paying 2% less in SS. All this does is make the Government have to borrow more money. We are killing our children. We have to live within our means. If that means less free-bees, then get out the Axe and start cutting!

One reason I think the cap can not be done away with is this will cause big business to have to pay their matching amount for every employee. It is all about protecting the fat cats.

Defense needs to be cut by half but the idiots that want defense cut and entitlement to stay the same dont care about the defense of this country

Defense and entitlement consume a lot of the spending so both must be cut.

Why cant people plan there own retirement? Whats wrong with being self reliant?

ironically, being the huge idiot that you are, you'll probably need social security when you hit retirement age.

Nope, I already have enough money and have enough put away

I dont need the Ponzi Scheme so END SOCIAL SECURITY

Based on the quality of your posts in this forum, I highly doubt you're capable of amassing enough $$$ at a younger age for the above to be remotely true. The post you quoted on this is correct I believe. You will need SS.
