end of hose broke off, any tips?

The nozzle at the end of our hose broke off, so I bought a replacement. I cut off the end and tried to stick the new nozzle inside the hose (like the directions show, but I can't get it to go in. I know it's supposed to be a very tight fit, but I can't get it no matter how hard I try.

Is there some trick to getting it to fit, or am I just proving how much of a weakling geek I am?

That would be my guess. Either push harder or buy a completely new hose.

Oh wait, the garden hose. Maybe use some lube like dish soap to help or something.

if the hose is made of plastic, maybe a little lubircant inside the hose will work.
if the hose is made of rubber or reinforced plastic (nylon webbing), you might be able to 'ream out'
the hose with the end of an open end wrench of the nearly same size.

if the hose has any other cracks or is showing signs of sun rot or winter freeze rot, toss it and get a new one.

Liquid dish soap is recommended as a lubricant.

It shouldn't be too hard to get the connector on. If it is, you may have purchased the wrong size.

If you still can't get it to fit after lubbing it up, I would guess it's the wrong size also.
I think there are 3/8" and 5/8"

Try cutting the hose diagonally, then slipping it on there. Once it's on use boxcutters to make the cut even again.

Oh yes, only do this after you check to see if the piece you bought is the right size.

the inside seems to be rubber and the outside has plastic with webbing. I'll have to try messing with the wrench

The new part seems to be the same size as the one I cut off. It's definetly not the difference of 3/8 and 5/8 (I got the 5/8)

You can put the end of the hose in hot (boiling) water to soften it up for the new end.

Grouchyolddude is correct, the sizes are 1/2 and 5/8 for hoses, not 3/8s. Try the 1/2 size.
