Well, I honestly don't believe that the world will end in the next few years or centuries. It has taken quite sometime since our last collision with a celestial body to get this far. Ask yourself why the moon is made of the same composition as the earth? If it was captured in earth's gravity? Plus if the moon was a captured body why was is moving so damn slow? It's 1/4 the size of earth how could the earth exert that much gravity? It's hard for the shuttle to exert enough gravity spinning to attract a rock the size of a fist.

Plus if you consider that life just appeared a few billion years ago it begs the question of external intervention. Extraterrastrial? Divine? Either way it happend. Plus by the time the sun turns into a Gas Giant we will need to be living on Netpune to be within the life belt. Or I should say the next dominant species will need to be. By that time Genetics will have evolved to the next level and even if the human species stayed around that long we wouldn't look anything like we do now, with all of the average genetic mutation that goes on. We'll be taller, thinner, and stronger...possible even smarter too...if we bread out all the average intellegence. Those 7 foot tall Basketball player with 4.0 MIT degrees are just the beginning of the cycle...yeah...anyway. Besides we keep destroying our habitat at record rates. Any idea of how many species that we've endangered or caused extinction to occour? Humdreds a year. It doesn't suprise me that when we ate from the fuirt of knowledge, that God took the Garden of Eden with him/her. If they had left it we would have just hunted down all the animals, cut down the trees for lumber, and strip mined it for ore. At this rate we'll be around for quite a while...Just an opinion of the clinically insane. Later

One dream I had projected a date of March of the year 2016. Never did give a day, which I thought was weird. Oh well its probably totally bogus.

apoppin,

Yes we will make it! All pettiness and ego aside we're all explorers at heart and have a dying curiosity to at least find out what's out there. Will we find God in the process? Those who haven't found her already certainly might. But no I sincerely believe we won't rise above ourselves during the journey. The deeper we look out there, the more in awe we'll be. It's exciting stuff and I'm optimistic but perhaps I've seen to many Star Trek episodes.
