hi all,

any of you using ShareCrypt from www.securstar.com?

i work for a company that is interested in the product. basically it encrypts shared network drives or folders by allowing simultaneous data access to different users and preventing unauthorized access from non-authorized people. that's about all i know about it..i never tried it myself though.

any infos and suggestions from people that already tried it would be greatly appreciated.

thank you!

I've got no idea about the software.

It sounds like it should be kind of redundant, though, since usually one would be able to use user level / domain level type of authentication and authorization controls to limit who has access to what shared file(s) or resources when.

Also typically if you just set up a VPN to communicate with the file server you could use the VPN security authentication policy to decide who has access to connect and who does not. Since the VPN traffic would usually be chosen to be encrypted as well as authenticated, you would have your encryption, authorization, and authentication all solved.

Anyway I guess there are lots of ways to solve any given problem. In this case, though, I'm not totally seeing the obvious benefits of it unless it is particularly good, inexpensive, and much easier for novices to administer than your typical alternative security / authorization / encryption measures may be.

Hello Deana,

If you are really interested in that software you can access the home page of the company SecurStar and download there the trial version they do offer, for 30 days, so you`ll be able to see if it fit your companies needs and also if it is easy to use. You can see there the prise for the it which is not so high for a company, I think.

Good luck and let me know how it worked! :)

hello all and thank you for your replies!

i've contacted the costumer support from SecurStar and they were quite helpful in informing me about everything i needed to know.

perusing their page i came across DriveCrypt (i'm interested in it for personal use, not for my job) so now i am asking about your opinion regarding this software, DriveCrypt. i am especially interested in it's traveller mode feature...seems pretty cool.

have a nice day guys!
