Encoding

I have a 3ghz E3110 O/C to 4ghz, when encoding a full length .Avi it takes a full 2+ hours.

This is actually the first time I have done encoding on a home PC. I used to do it on a 16 core AMD box a few months back.

Is Windows DVD maker slower then other applications when encoding?

I don't have any experience using DVD maker. Do you feed it an avi file and it creates a video_ts folder to burn to DVD?

If so, it should be using mpeg2 compression which sounds like a long time for that CPU. (AVI is irrelivant to time since it is only the file container).

EDIT: Considering microsoft probably wouldn't be using a garbage encoder, I doubt you could shade off much time using a different codec to encode.

Never really timed it but it takes me just under an hour or thereabouts to both encode and burn my DVDs.
That's with my E7200 @ 3.6GHz.
