Enabling USB in ThinkPad 760EL

I just bought a PCMCIA USB card for my 760EL. I updated the bios to support USB, and installed all the software for the card. The computer detects the card, and recognizes it. There are no device conflicts in the device manager, but the card still doesnt recognize any device plugged into the USB ports. I'm running Windows 98SE.

I ran a google search, which provided very little help. Help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed CardBus. It says it's compatible with IBM PCs, Recommended Pentium 3 Processor, and 128 mb of ram.

The device manager shows several usb related devices when the card is plugged in:

Generic USB Hub
NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller

The manual shows that all of the above 4 should be included (2 are for USB 1.1, and other 2 for 2.0). And as I said before, there are no device conflicts, and I selected to enable IRQ steering, and I enabled CardBus on IRQ 10 through thinkpad utilities.

Ok, I fixed the problem, only to encounter another...

I changed the IRQ to a lower number, away from anything else with the same interrupt request, however, when I try to install my USB Data Link cable from Prolific Technology, it keeps installing the Unknown Device driver from the ......Windows\INF\usb.inf directory, no matter what I do.
