How do I know if ps 3.0 is enabled in far cry? I have the newest patch for far cry as well as dx 9.0c. Is it automatically enabled? Also, I dont see how everyone on this forum claims the 6800 GT runs 1600x1200, with all the settings maxed, and aa/af enabled flawless. I score 12,797 in 3dmark03, but when I am running at 1280x1024 with all the settings maxed with low aa and 2 af, things are not that smooth. I have 4x aa and 4x af enabled in the control panel, so maybe those settings are conflicting with the in game aa and af? Im a nvidia noob so if theres any little tricks you guys do let me know lol.

Far Cry runs far too slow to use AA and I suggest you turn it off.

Ull know that its enabled if u see the text "smpath30beta" (or something similar) in yellow text.
Enable it by typing \r_sm30path 1 in the console

Do that.
Or in the desktop shortcut just add this command line right next to the destination (right click - properties)
to have it permanantly enabled. It should be like this

destination -devmode "smpath30beta"

Thanks all for the comments on enabeling ps3.0. So BFG10K, I thought buying a 400 dollar graphics card would let me run all the options. Argg, maybe i should just got an x800 xt from work.

I run with 4x AA on my 6800GT at 1024x768 and it's smooth. Try it before you let someone's opinion deter you.

EDIT: NM, saw you already tried running at 1600x1200 with AA...

Do you have to have patch 1.2 to do this? I had to reformat and lost my copy of the patch (Which had worked fine for me), but no matter what command I try; I can't get it to work. I read somewhere about having to edit driver files, but that was an older article; perhaps before SM3.0 was officially supported in nVidia's drivers? Thx in advance
BTW, I'm using 61.77 drivers

The 1.2 patch was recalled, so install the 1.1. Make sure you also have directx 9.0c

MDE- I have the resolution set to 1152x864 and it still lags up in heavy fire fights with low aa and 2 af. I dont see how people are running this game so smooth at 1600, its just not possible.

Just google the 1.2 patch. Its out there. The problem the patch had was mostly for ATI cards. You need 1.2 to used SM 3.0.

I got a nice FPS boost from SM 3.0

1.2 has some new maps used for timedemos (research, volcano and 2 more that I can't remember right now)
Anyway to bench IIRC just enter the game, open the console with the "~" button and enter :
\map mapname
\demo mapname (leave the demo loop as many times as you want) and then enter
\stopdemo (when you want to stop it)
Results will be saved in a text file inside each level's folder. Remember to have devmode enabled in order to do this

No problem.

Simply slapping $400 on a video card doesn't mean you can run any game you like at whatever setting you fancy.

Argg, maybe i should just got an x800 xt from work.
You could but I doubt that can handle high resolutions with AA in Far Cry either.

Im guessing its just this game then, because every other game i have runs smooth as hell. I just got kinda mad because everyone here boasts about how well this card runs at 1600 with all the options on so good with this game, which deffinitely is not true.

Far Cry is quite a demanding game even though the engine does run fast. AA in particular is quite demanding and you're often better off disabling it and simply raising the resolution a notch or two.

Gamershell has it for download. Be careful though it seriously cocked my machine up. It also causes problems with saved games!!!

Direct link to the 1.2 patch.

Oh and BTW, SM3.0 is enabled in the 1.1 patch.

This patch was released to fix a small number of bugs and to add functionality to FarCry.

Details

1. We are aware of an issue causing players connecting to an internet based multiplayer game to drop their connection and timeout during a connect. If you find your connection stalling when joining a server, we recommend that players retry the connection until it succeeds.
2. When hosting games on LAN with punkbuster, please remember to enable pb_sv_lan 1 pb_sv_guidrelax 7.
3. We strongly recommend players host multiplayer games only through FarCry dedicated server.

Single player

- Added toggle modes for Aim and Crouch
- Fixed numerous small bugs
- Fixed a crash when attempting to load more than one instance of FarCry
- Fixed bug with AI autobalance that sometimes caused it not to initialize outside of DEVMODE
- Fixed issue where player spawns a little higher in the air after a load from checkpoint.
- Improved AI saving state at checkpoints.

Multiplayer

- Fixed issue with FarCry anti-cheat kicking players connecting to non-similar regions due to post process copy protection
- FarCry anti-cheat is now disabled by default (replaced with Punkbuster)
- Added support for All Seeing Eye
- Added Punkbuster support
- Added new netcode optimizations, vehicles now use significantly less bandwidth in client to server updates. Mounted weapons no longer generate packets when not being used. Included various other packet compressions.
- Added network commands to help players tune the network rates for better performance, including the following commands:

cl_cmdrate ? Limit the number of command packets sent from client to server
sv_maxcmdrate ? Limit the max cmd rate clients can specify
cl_updaterate ? Limit the number of update packets sent from the server
sv_maxupdaterate ? Limit the max updates clients can specify
cl_maxrate ? Max bits per second can be adjusted
sv_maxrate_lan or sv_maxrate (for non lan, ie internet) will limit the cl_rate allowed on the clients
sv_DedicatedMaxRate ? To change the server update speed

- LAN servers now restricted to LAN IP?s
- Configurable ubi.com ports sv_auth_port (port directing ubi.com cdkey authentication) and sv_regserver_port (port used to register servers with ubi.com) for admins.
- Added ability to disable server address publishing with command sv_servertype ?NET?
- Fixed some issues with sv_port variable
- Open query protocol to allow monitoring of the server with external tools
- Server config can now be anywhere with any name
- Improved priority based network system (below a certain limit it was not sending, now it does)
- Fixed adjustable cmdrate with vehicles
- Fixed command line joining, there was still a little problem
- Added some optimizations to UI system drawing/updating
- Fixed bug where ?Join game button? no longer worked in multiplayer UI
- Fixed issue with dedicated server running on Windows 2003 Server edition
- Fixed bug when players get out from a vehicle, the player will go in standing pose (no crouch or prone).
- The message ?drop your weapon to take this other weapon? will disappear only when the player go away from this weapon, not immediately.
- Fixed no pain sounds if an explosion didn?t really hurt the player.

Other

- Improved shader speed (up to two times faster) for NVidia Geforce FX cards on very high settings
- Fixed fog bug with NVidia drivers
- Added support for NVidia NV40 chipset
- Fixed realtime shadows from blended trees
- Made improvements to lighting shaders on very high settings
- Fixed bug with lake reflections
- Added support fro PS3.0 shader profile

I have never had issues with patch 1.2 causing saved game or any other issues, but I guess that's an individual situation. However, as far as full PS3.0 support goes, I could never get it to enable in 1.1. I tried all of the different command line options and it would never enable. I changed my shortcut as described towards the beginning of this thread and it worked on the spot. Haven't played it much since, but seems stable & speedy. GL to all

To all of you who say that you can't play Far Cry at high res, I here is what I am currently running - 1600*1200, 4xAA, everything set to "high" except for textures, environment, and water. I haven't tried Ansio from within the game yet. "Quality" checked in the rendering quality, 6800 @ 400/875, XP3000+, 1 gig hyperx, raptor. Played the game for hours, no problems, no slow downs. Looks awesome. Don't say it can't be done. I get about 55 fps in the doom3 time demo with this set up @ 1600*1200 at high quality. Oh, I am also using the 65.73 drivers and patch 1.2. Good luck getting your rig going as fast as possible!

And that has what to do with Far Cry performance?
