An ethernet cable is the quickest way to link two computers together without the use of the internet. As soon as the connection is made, the two systems can share files and see and edit them together.

Only after discovery and sharing permissions are set up, which is not a big issue if you know it needs to be done.
  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings.
  2. Select Turn on network discovery to enable network discovery.
  3. Select Turn on file and printer sharing to enable file sharing.
