i just got my new 2.8e to replace the DOA 2.8e that newegg first sent me
but i seem to be having problems getting HT to work
I am using winxp pro and have set HT to "enabled" in the bios
the problem is i am getting low benchmark scores and the taskmanager only shows one cpu graph
device manager however shows two cpu's

i'm sure this question has been asked before but i couldn't seem to find anything that would help either with a search here or on google

can anyone give me a few hints ??

i'm just hoping this cpu isn't somehow DOA too

thanks

In task manager did you chose 1 cpu per graph?

look in VIEW>CPU HISTORY> click on one graph per cpu.

did you have to mess with any kind of winxp settings to get HT to work ?
or did you just plop it in and it worked after enabling HT in the bios ?

last time I did that i went from a 2.26ghz 533 cpu and then put a 2.4c in it. Winxp detected the new cpu & all was fine after that.

I got no ideal why xp didn't detect your cpu.

in device manager it shows two cpu's
but the only things with ACPI mentioned are as follows:

- computer
advanced configuration and power interface (ACPI) pc

- system devices
ACPI fan
ACPI fixed feature button
ACPI thermal zone
microsoft ACPI-compliant system

That's probably where the problem lies, you need to change your pc to a multiprocessor pc.

Here's what it should be.

i cleared the cmos and i get the same result
also i noticed that the max3 undervolts this proc to 1.34v by default (most recent bios and older bios)
i tryed upping the voltage to where the actual was 1.4 but that didn't help

anyone have any ideas ?
should i send this one back too ?

did you do a clean install?

Have you tried changing your computer to an ACPI multiprocessor pc? you can try & force it by going into your computer properties (in device manager) and then clicking on update driver, then install from list, then dont search i will chose.... , then select ACPI multiprocessor pc. reboot.

A clean install would fix that, maybe a repair install.

ya, I had this problem on an install and after doing a clean install it worked just fine. You can do a repair installation without losing any of your data, only the Windows Updates you have applied. It should give you the option after it searches for previous Windows installations to repair the install, you will then select C:\Windows (Default) and it will go from there...kind of like it did on Windows 9x machines.

this processor rocks
i'm glad i got it

if for nothing else HT makes me happy
it feels good to run two threads of seti on high priority and have the system still be responsive

i tryed 3ghz last night with 1.44v but it gave me a BSOD
i'll try again later today

it also runs about 10c hotter than the system in my sig at it's default settings
i noticed the difference between idle and load temps is pretty high too
but this isn't too bad
55c under load
