enabling boot logging

If i enable boot logging in win2k, would it store the boot process in a file? if so where is it stored and will it be able to be read in dos environment using the "more" command?
The reason i'm asking is my computer is REALLY effed up right now, it won't pass the win2k splash screen w/o rebooting.

In my experience, spotaneous reboots usually mean a hardware problem.

i'm not doubting what you are saying but it reboots at the same time all the time, and i want to know what's causing my problem. my problem Link

Yeah. It could very well be a driver then.

Hmm.. I believe the bootlog is just a text file in root, called bootlog.txt?

nope, and i've also tried pulling out all of my USB devices. this problem just happened today, after going through several months with no problems.

Yes, the file name would be bootlog.txt, if I am not mistaken it will be in c:\winnt directory. Just press and hold F8 at boot and when the menu comes up choose "enable boot logging", it should tell you there where to look for that file.

perhaps one of you got a virus? or a runtime error infinite loop thing?

maybe disconnect from network.

it also could be that you experienced a power surge that fried some electronics. could be why his is laggy. i remember when i fried the power supply to some machine, after a partial fix, it was still laggy...

had to solder in some new electronics to get it back up and running.

maybe you fried something else, and he lost part of his power supply 😛

Don't expect your install to ever be the same again if you "repair" it.. lol..

I would recommend a fresh install..... as sad as that is.

ahh...i need some of my stuff...haha...looks like i have to us those lovely dos commands.

edit: forgot to say, thanks for the help guys.

I knwo this might not help...but update any firmware recently?
I have a TDK 440 series DVD burner, when i updated the firmware on it, my OS blue screened at boot everytime. Windows would start...i could log on and then BSOD!
Removing the TDK from my system fixed the problem, putting it back started it all over again. I moved it between IDE controlers, removed the other burner...nothing worked.

had to do a fresh install with the new firmware to get it to work.
