Enable / Disable Autorun in Windows 2000?

"My Computer" doesn't update when I insert a new CD unless I hit Refresh once I'm in My Computer. Then I have to right-click and select Autorun if I want it to do so.

😕

I think CD autorun should be on by default in 2000. You can change this in the group policy snap-in for the MMC, I think.

Go to device management, open the properties of your cd-rom, and to turn ON your autorun, check auto-insert-notification. Reboot and your problem should be solved. (Uncheck to turn off)

This is in Windows 9x, not in Windows 2000.

Does any1 else have a key in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom" that says "AutoRunAlwaysDisable" ? The type is REG_MULTI_SZ and the value is a whole bunch of CD-ROMs; mine are not included.

I have that key as well. I think they only apply to the CD-ROM changers in that list; these drives don't support autorun, so if you have one of those, this key overrides regular autorun for that drive. Otherwise, it doesn't do anything, I guess.

This is for 98. You will find device manager in the control panel under the system icon.
