Based on Anandtech reviews/articles etc. and $ available, purchased the following components for a new system (ignoring trivial items):
COOLER MASTER CAVALIER 3 CAV-T03-UW Silver Aluminum/Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ZALMAN ZM400A-APF ATX 400W Power Supply
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS EN6600GT/TD/128 Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3200BIBOX
CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model VS1GBKIT400
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6B200M0 200GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
NEC ND-3520A Beige IDE DVD Burner
SAMSUNG 997DF Ivory 19" CRT Monitor 15-Pin D-Sub
Hooked everything up and began installing XP. Video seemed fine, but slow, until it came time to install the ASUS-supplied software and drivers. Following that installation and reboot, the video has muti-colored vertical streaks throughout. Change video modes, and it begins to look like a very colorful mosaic- pretty, but useless. I downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia drivers, but get the same results. I have the card installed in the first PCIe slot, and configured for non-SLI operation. I also checed everything I could find on both the Nvidia and ASUS websites, but found nothing pertinent. Am I missing something obvious, or am I dealing with a defective card? Has anyone experienced video like this? I'm writing this from work, so am unable to supply a screen capture.
