which is a good emulator out there???? I want to play metal slug for the Neo Geo and some old arcade junk.

Win Kawaks works pretty well. Supports CPS1 CPS2 and Neo Geo Games. Its updated quite a bit so it supports almost all the latest Neo Geo roms

Edit: If you do decide to get Mame, get the Mame 32k version so you can play online. I think you can download it at Kaillera.com Win Kawaks also supports online play.
 
MAME is awesome. Personally, I use a seperate emulator for each platform, but that way I get the most optimization for that console or platform.

Like I use ColEM for ColecoVision, NeoRage for NeoGeo, Magic Engine for TurboGrafx.... I even use one that plays all of the Cinematronics Vector graphics games (except Cosmic Chasm, dammit).

They're all small programs, so why not try more than one and see which one you like. You can download most of them from Classic Gaming's Website.
