If you try emulating Apple OS with Pear PC emulator on a 64 bit AMD system will there be a huge speed difference compared with a 32 bit system, im thinking there might be because the apple operating system was written for 64 bit architecture.

The Apple OS wasn't written for the 64 bit architecture. Tiger was said to have been optimized for the G5 processor, which is 64 bit. But from what I have read, OS X up to 10.3 Panther is a 32 bit OS, with 64 bit registries.

THe apple proccessors have been 64-bit for ages though..... Thats why they had to make an intel version of the operating system because it is written for 64 bit processors

Uhhhhh where the hell are you getting this information? It was pretty recently (with the G5) that Apple had 64 bit processors. None of its predecessors were 64 bits nor was the operating system.

I heard that the G3 and G4 were 64-bit internally, but had a 32 bit external interface (This isn't including Altivec on the G4)

Regardless, it doesn't matter what cpu you use for PearPC, coz it just emulates on anyway (usually G3).

I think he's messing up Altivec (128bit SIMD AFAIK) with the actual 'bit level' of the chip. Apple's first 64 bit chip was the G5 which came out in 2003. The OS itself has some 64 bit parts, but the vast majority is still 32 bit based.

Considering that Apple's target market is non-tech savvy people with a lot of money, I'm not surprised that he doesn't know what he actually has.

OK, so at the end of the day. Is running PearPC on an Athlon 64 bearable, or is it still painfully slow?

Buy an AMD64 machine. Buy OS X. Install PearPC. Install OS X. Tell us.

OK, I'm almost there. I have OS-X. My Athlon 64 3200+ is being shipped, and I can dlownload PearPC sometime this week.

It's better to buy a whole new computer for it than to emulate it for $130?
