This is what makes me wonder about the whole "Gore won the recount" thing"

If those votes had been properly counted, under two of the four counting standards used by the paper to determine valid votes, Gore would have won the entire state by 300 to 400 votes.

So because it appears(no counting method is perfect) Gore won in exactly half (2 out of 4) of the counting standards (why is there more than one anyway?), then Gore won? That just isn't logical.

The standards get looser and looser as you go down. The two in which Gore would have won are looser than Bill Clinton's zippers.

People who refuse to move on and accept defeat are just whining that Gore didn't do what Saddam did in the last election: threaten death and win 100% of the vote!

Moonbeam keeps quoting "legal votes according to the written laws of Florida" yet he has never once produce said written law that considers ballots examined by a media consortium to be considered legal votes.

Moonbeam's argument is significantly flawed in that it assumes the standards used by the media consortium would be employed by the individual voting canvassars.

No I am not being searched or monitored(as far as I know ) but the problems some of us have with the Patriot Act and its successor (PA2) is that it possibly gives the gov't the power to bypass laws put in place to protect us from gov't "monitoring" ,searches, and etc. I agree that 99.9...% of the time if you do nothing to peak the interest of the gov't you won't have to worry about the possible misuse of power, but you never really know

This is EXACTLY why the founders didn't want a direct election of the president. The president is the chief exec of the COUNTRY, not the 4 most populous cities and their surrounding areas, who might running on some kind of "If I win, our small cities will get all the money" platform or perhaps something more likely but just as bad.

Argue all you want about chad rules (I happen to think the SCOTUS did what they should have done) but to say GW should not be president because of his lack of popular vote count shows a clear lack of understanding of the nature of our political system. Of course this is comming from someone who thinks state legislatures should vote for senators, not the people directly, but I digress...

The so-called "Patriot Act" has taken away from me my families main hobby, model rocketry. Under the auspices of the "Patriot Act" the ATF has decided arbitrarily that rocket motors over 62.5 gm can not be stored, transported or used unless one applies for and receives a Low Explosive User Permit or LEUP. The application fee is steep $75 I think and involves getting clearance from Federal law enforcement, my state OSHA department, my local fire chief and local law enforcement, none of whom want to be bothered or have any funding to conduct the required procedures. Thus my rocket hobby is at an end. Thanks a lot to the Bush Administration for protecting my "freedom". Wait until the Ashcroft "Patriot Act II" is put forth and a lot larger segment of the population will be affected.

Along the same lines, we now have a "Homeland Security Dept". Does anyone think that this dept will get less intrusive over time? Not the usual behavior for any govt. dept. Look for lots of new intrusions from Homeland Security as well in the future.
