It depends on the shape of the face. Sharp and pointy faces go well with long hair only. Heart shaped faces can pretty much pull off any type of cut.

Also, sunken cheeks or eyes go better with long hair. Same with flat cheeks. If your cheeks are filled, you can pull anything off.
