the whole situation is not as black/white as you think

http://www.dw-world.de/

The European Union responded to the US action by launching a counterattack, taking its own complaint about rival Boeing to the WTO in the brewing aviation trade war.

Attacking the US complaint with the WTO, EU Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy said in a statement: "If this is the path the US has chosen, we accept the challenge, not least because it is high time to put an end to massive illegal US subsidies to Boeing which damage Airbus, in particular those for Boeings new 7E7 program."

The complaints followed a failure to renegotiate a 12-year-old transatlantic accord limiting government support to airplane manufacturers. Subsidies had been allowed under a 1992 US-EU agreement which the United States decided to scrap.

I hope for Boeing that the US govt. didn't open a canofworms with the WTO procedure. If the WTO rules
that the EU loans are legal under the 1992 agreement and at the same time rules that Boeing is receiving
illegal funds for its commercial liners through NASA and military contracts then it's going to be very s*itty
situation for them

the US govt. onesided threw away a bilateral agreement with the EU because Airbus has been very
successfull in the last 10 years , not very nice IMHO

anyway the WTO will rule

Odd cause my mother flew it back in the 90's and it was around 5k, not 10.

Also the concorde is out of business now..they closed show awhile back.

um.. if someone can afford 10k airfare they wouldn't be too far off from a personal jet eh?

simply to rent a personal jet costs in the neighborhood of 50k, and that is for domestic flights

If you want to rent a 767 maybe. You can rent a nice luxorious Cessna or Gulfstream for 10K easily. Probably can't go as far as the 10K first class seat for that price. But I myself would rather not mingle with the peasants.

About as funny as my left nut on your forehead.
LOL, I think that's funny. :D

For 10k, I better be a member of the mile high club by the time the plane lands.

Because American companies were to blame and thats a fact. I like Boeing but the fact is that Airbus makes good planes and they are going to lead the industry in plane manufacturing.

the main assembly line is in France?

Whats wrong with a plane being made in France?

Ever used French made small arms?;)

Your point? What does small arms have to do with making a commercial plane.

It was a joke about French manufacturing, historically the've had a few problems.

IIRC, the parts for Airbus planes are actually made all over the EU.

A waste of money. A fractional ownership in something like NetJets would be better, and cheaper if one travels a lot.

My brother uses NetJets and it is actually cheaper to fly his family of 6 on private fractionally owned jets than in first class commercial jets.

Unless you have an obscene number of frequent flyer miles built up like my dad.

He and his wife travelled 1st class on Swiss (very nice) round trip to Athens and he still had enough miles to do it again.:Q

I was back in Coach getting drunk for free, gotta love european airlines.:)
