I just wanted revive this thread for a moment. Just got the album an hour ago. I'm really surprised since I didn't think he'd be able to put out some original thought this far along his career. But honestly, he did an awesome job. This album kicks ASS!!! Really impressed.

The guys still got it

I vote even earlier. 85-93.

there is PLENTY of good stuff out there. You just aren't going to see it on MTV or hear it on the radio.

Not disagreeing with you there. I only meant I am very sentimental to that period of hip hop and still listen to it often.

one of my main gripes with it is like someone said, the bodily noises. Who wants to hear people farting and burping and pissing during songs?

its still a good cd, but eminem has gotten lazy. You cant really blame him, he is probably the most famous pop culture celebrity to generation Y and he has millions of dollars and fans. It is obvious (in lyrical references on the album, no less) that he is getting ready to leave the rap game in the next few years and concentrate on producing/acting whatever

He just makes throwaway songs with no real lyrical content. I think ass like that, big weenie and rain man are funny songs, they even grew on me, but like he says

"Cause I just did a whole song and I didnt say sht"

that line made me laugh the first time i heard it, but its too bad at the same time. No one is denying eminem's talent. He is still one of (if not the) most talented rapper in the game right now, but he has abandoned his lyricism and concentrated more on perfecting his flow and delivery. Which is awesome, by the way...the way his voice seamlessly melds with a drumroll in toy soldiers, for example. But still...it would be nice to have both.

another thing that i found kind of sad and amusing at the same time...is it just me, or does em sound JUST LIKE justin timberlake in the beginning of yellow brick road? His increased singing is started to annoy me...we get it, you like to sing. Its not so bad for some hooks, but too much of anything is a bad thing. I personally think he fcked up "spend some time". The beat he produced was great, his verse was great as well as the sample, but i think his warbly singing on the hook kind of ruined it.

And finally....I am finally getting sick of hearing about kim. I have put up with 4+ albums of this. I can identify alot with that kind of relationship, and I even had an ex named Kim, but jesus...let it go (impossible, i know). It was actually refreshing to hear eminem spit about a different girl on "spend some time". Still....he claims that he is not in love with her and does not want her back on "Puke", only to completley contradict himself on crazy in love.

but thats tempestuous relationships, i can relate. Why do i care? I just forsee many more back and forth songs...but its just really starting to get old and done for me (finally..i know many were sick a long time ago)

whoever said this album was better then the marshall mathers LP is an idiot...no two ways about it.

its still leaps and bounds ahead of most popular "rap" albums...but then again that isnt really saying much. I enjoy eminem as well as this album, but you really cannot deny this is a bit of a step down for him.

8/10

I'm not too impressed by it. I guess it's hard to top the Marshall Mathers LP, but even the Eminem Show was better than this.

The Marshall Mathers LP is his best major release IMO, followed by The Slim Shady LP and then the Eminem Show. I haven't heard this one yet, but I'll prolly be picking it up soon. If it's anything like the Eminem Show, it won't spend much time in my CD player.

No love for Evil Deeds? I hate the hook, but i love that style of rap. The last verse is amazing. Other than that song, i like spend some time, toy soldiers will probably get a video. i like crazy in love a bit (especially the hook), but i wish they would cut his verses in half or something. Can't stand him singing for that much time consecutively. The more i listen to the album, the more i like it though.

i happen to like Big Weenie a lot. the background music goes along with his voice really well. im not sure how much that has to do with editing however, but it sounds really good.

I really enjoy this album however ive really enjoyed his other albums for some reason i can put myself in the position, which i think is one of the reasons he is such a large artist currently. This album passes a different message. he really really rips on himself as to how he gets popular as you stated. the other albums flowed together pretty well and this one does like to jump and has a lot of differen types of rapping on it.

If i had a cd player this would be in there.

Mosh, although i dont agree with it completely is a really powerful song along with Like Toy Soldiers. both pass a similar message. and i know a lot of people dont like it when artists throw their political agenda into music, however music is a form of expression and they like to pass it this way. eminem however doesnt come out like everyone else and announces it, he just sings/raps about it.

edit: o yea, sorry for bumping it since its old. but im just bored and listening to it.

MIKE

wow, we have a lurker coming out just to rip on eminem which he prolly doesnt listen to because "all rap sucks". and likes to make unjustified statements.
