No, its for new deposits...I just moved 5k in there, once the promotion is over I'll move it to emigrant.

wow... i'm really starting to think about changing to emigrant... start application process now.. then when 4.75% is over for ING... changing to emigrant... 4.5% that's more then my mortgage interest at 3.75%

made the switch from ING to Emigrant awhile back and I've been happy with the service/speed of rate increase.

really..... we'll i have been happy with ING... except the fact they are always lagging in keeping up with other .... I hear bad things about imigrant int he threads....

I have an ING acount, but I hate that they require a physical check in order to setup the direct-debit of funds.

I had a tax refund that I wanted to transfer to ING but because I moved last year and opened a new checking account, we couldn't just move the funds over.

yeah!!! I was thinking of switching to HSBC (for higher rates), but their
system is too complicated, so I was thinking, and thinking, and thinking ...
But I don't have to think anymore! I'm staying with ED!!!!

ING is user friendly

I heard the others aren't.

Stick with ING. How much more can you possibly get by switching over?

It's worth the easy to use interface IMO.

When the ING promo is over it's back to 3.8% APY and HSBC is back to 4.25% APY (from 4.8%).
Just for example, if someone has 20K in savings you would have:

20K at 0.55% is approx 110.00/year extra with HSBC
20K at 0.80% is 160.00/year extra with ED

If it was me, the easy interface defininely isn't worth 160.00 or 110.00 per year to me. I would rather have it in my pocket. But that's me.

I hope ING raises their rates. They must.

Capital One, HSBC already have them beat if they stay with 3.8%.

I'm sure there are more out there.

I have both ING and Emigrant Direct account. I think everyone should do the same. Why choose when you can have best of both worlds.

Always a good choice. I might just do that.

and why stop there. I also have HSBC and Presidential (for checking). Swtiching between them isn't very hard once the accounts are setup, and the added paperwork each year is minimal.

you make a good point... i think i'll set up ed acc... keep my ING

move money according to rates... nice plan... i should give ED a chance... if i have problem... go back to ING...

one horrible horrible aspect of ING's interface is how to link new external accounts. they give you a routing # for direct deposits, but no other bank allows you to link directly to it.

trying to link through ING involves sending them a check (besides your first account, which can be linked electronically). I don't have checks for my ED or HSBC accounts, and don't plan on creating a checking account on them. So to transfer money from ING to HSBC or vice versa, requires sending the money into my regular checking account then forwading the money onwards, which takes about a week to fully complete the transaction.

why? cause they want to lock you in making it difficult for you to move money out.

just my 2c.
