Signed up for Emigrant Direct after seeing the 4% offer. Should be easy enough, go to the website, follow the link to sign up and create my username/password, link my bank account, etc. Great, few days later I see they deposited the verification amount into my bank account. So I go back to Emigrant Direct to plug those numbers in.

"Login not accepted."

Huh? Call customer service. Ohhh, how stupid of me! I can only verify these numbers by clicking on the link in the email that they sent me! Can't do something so trivial from the main page. Of course the link asks me to input the very same u/p that doesn't work from the main page. I'm trying to do this at work, email is on home computer.

Alright, got that worked out, verified my deposit values. I go to log in today.

"Login not accepted."

WHY THE F NOT? Call customer service. "We send you a letter in the mail that will have your account information on it." I don't have an account yet? WTF? How many hoops do I have to go through to try to GIVE YOU PEOPLE MY MONEY? They must not want it very badly. This company needs to get with the times.

*cliff notes* Emigrant direct doesn't want your money.

They send a new login via snail mail for security purposes.

As far as the two banks go, some people find comfort in paying ING (via lower interest rate) for their easy-to-use interface, better customer service and fewer initial headaches. Everyone has their own preferences.

I have been with both. I got the sign-up and referral bonuses from ING and transferred the money to Emigrant for the higher rate.

if you just followed instructions, pretty much both the mistakes you made are absolutely stupid... it clearly states in all the documentation provided the steps required to open the account.

yes, it is a long procedure, but if you just read the instructions its quite easy and straightforward.

I *still* haven't gotten my sign up info, and I signed up just a couple days after they went to 4%.

I didn't say they're wrong, I said their signup process is stupid. And it is.

web site is a little out of date but 4% > 3.xx

you have to wait for the letter like the rest of us.
