Emerson 37" LCD HDTV 720p with tuners $897 WalMart no rebates

Another of WalMart's one time buys. Unusually strong contrast ratio for inexpensive LCD HDTV's makes me wonder about this one. Week of Nov 5-11.

Edited again ... seems like this Funai product is also to be labled a Sylvania as they look very similar and Sylv has 1000:1 cont ratio. Also has 8ms response time. Linked below

This Sylvania may be the same as the Emerson

Wal-Mart did have, and I suppose still does, one of the least expensive extended warranties available, so maybe it is worth a chance.

I have not tried Emerson's site for specs but the model number is EWL3706.

Could not find Emerson site but did find these limited specs elsewhere

doesn't seem hot for the brand. I picked up an Emprex 37 for under 700 a couple weeks back from fry's, and I certainly wouldn't rate Emerson over Emprex

You absolutely can't trust stated contrast ratios. This case may be an exception, but make sure you do your homework. If you buy a tv simply on stated contrast ratio, you will likely get burned.

Both comments above are correct, but WM has a few things going for it

1. 90 day in store return if not satisfied
2. Cheap extended warranties
3. I can see it in a store first. There are no Fry's anywhere near here.

But I cannot afford it anyway. Wife spent my bank account again🙁

ditto 🙂

The Emerson 37" LCD is now sold at Walmart.com for $799. My local walmart has one, but their price is $835 (and they won't pricematch to walmart.com). Is this a good deal? If you had $800-$850 for a 37" HDTV, what would you do? I've read good things about this Emerson and it looks good in the store, but how does it compare with the other 37" LCDs (with tuner) in its price range?
