The 2001FP does not scale down well at lower resolutions. However, I can play just about any game I have in full 1600x1200 resolution w/ full AA and other high res settings, etc., so I don't have any need for it to scale down right now. Also, I had a 17in LCD before this with a native resolution of 1280x1024, so I was looking to step up, and the Dell has certainly been just that for me. I love all the extra screen real estate I have now. I can not go back to 1280x1024.
 
Hmmm, ok, I'll think about it.

Seems like, for my IDE problems, I can buy two Abit Serillel2 adapters for the hard disks, leaving the optical drives on separate channels. Ugly but hopefully this will work out.
