It's a new system and I tried to install black & White, gets to 86% then a box springs up, saying Component transfer error, with a small list- Component: Audio, File Group: blank, File: blank, Error:Catastrophic Failure. I then installed tiberian sun and that also stops while transferring the scores.mix. So far I've unplugged my soundcard and reverted back to the onboard sound, but still the same problem- Please help, I feel ill just seeing Black & White left on my desk without being able to play it:(

hmmm......

how far does it get (%) when you are installing TS? have you tried reinstalling both sound cards? how about clocking it back down, have you given that a shot? sometimes machines can do wierd things when o/c, and it looks like yours is.

Ts gets to 62%, then a message appears saying 'could not read from file %s' don't know what that means. Anyway, I tried your suggestion of going back to default clock but same thing happens and both reinstalled cards, but still no go. Any more ideas?help is appreciated. Black & White, staring,boo-hoo.

they are both the original cd's, right? not copies?

i recently had a brand new cd rom that apparently had probs reading some burned cd rom games i had, it sounds like it was doing the same thing yours is, it just stopped installing the games at a certain point.

if they are the original cd's, still might want to try cleaning/switching out the cd rom. have you installed other games successfully?

Thats a shame, cause B&W is def the best strategy game out right now. Since you talked about having the box in front of you I am assuming you bought it. Have you tried calling them for technical help? Also what kind of soundcard do you have? What version of windows are you running? Do you have the right settings for yoru cd drive? What you could do is (assuming you are using windows 9xme)right click on my computer and hit properties to get to the device manager and check the properties for the cdrom drive. Try enabling synch data transfer & dma mode. Then try deselecting evrything including auto-run. See what happens... I really hope you get this to work because well when you see your animal breakdance in front of the villagers it jus makes you proud. Good luck

Does it stop at the same spot everytime? How are your IDE devices hooked up. Possible problem with the IDE cable (its a longshot) or it could be a problem with your CD-rom. If you have the room, try putting it on an IDE channel by itself. Do you have a spare CD drive you could try?

Reminds me when I had a VIA MVP3 based board...IDE driver problem if I remember correctly.

I'm not up on the new VIA boards though.

Or when your animal deciedes that it's hungry and eats one of them.

Have you tried copying the cd to your hard drive and installing from their?
