ok i just set up my new system with
hercules game theater xp
FIC AD11
Duron 750@800
Crucial PC2100 DDR 256MB
mitsumi floppy drive
quantum fireball 30GB
elsa gladiac
toshiba dvd drive
lite-on 12x10x32x
two network cards

now the thing is when i only have the dvd drive in there and the hard drive in there, it boots up and posts fine but it says "floppy disk error (40)" so i go uh-oh, but i press F1 and it boots up into the desktop (oh yeah i have dropped my case maybe 1.5 inches off the ground, but im not sure if that caused my problem)

Now i add in everything else and it posts fine but it says that cursed "floppy disk error (40)" thing again, but it just hard locks right there. i cant even go into the BIOS. i dont know what to do! if you need more information just ask! I GOTTA GET THIS FIXED! ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED FOR ALL ETERNITY!

<< well i cant even go into the bios >>

IM me at Bangsailio, it'll go quicker. no ones on these forums at 12;40 CT

Is the floppy drive cable connected properly? Is the LED on the Floppy always on or does it not come on at all? If so it's connected wrong.

try another floppy and cable,
if the the floppy-led is constantly lit on the cable is connected the wrong way,
if that all doesn't help the floppy-controller might be damaged

Could be just a faulty floppy drive. Had a freind who worked at a CompUsa and they were constatly droppin stuff....never know these days 🙁 :Q

Hey, I have had this problem come into my work a couple of times now... Stupid AD11's... lol! Good boards, just a little buggy in the floppy dept. Check your manual for the location of the jumper for resetting the CMOS, it should be near the battery. Then go into the bios and disable your bootup floppy seek, it'll still work in windows, but will not seek in dos. START USING BOOTABLE CD'S! THEY'RE QUICKER ANYWAY!

alright the weiredest thing happened, i only put in the keyboard, the mouse, and the monitor and it worked fine! i could go into the desktop! but it still had that DAMN "floppy disk error (40)" error AGAIN! but if i go into BIOS and change it to halt on no errors, it boots up just fine. but it also take a lot of time to do something called, "verifying the DMI pool something" and that takes a long time. i think i should just reformat, would that be a good idea?

Verifying DMI Pool Data has nothing to do with your OS, and reformatting would not solve it. That step has to do with the BIOS's Plug and Play resource allocation.

Again, I wish you to check that you have the floppy data cable the right way....you may have the plug at the drive end upside-down.
