Everytime I get on the subway, there seems to be a new advert sanitizing the public fears about AIDS. We are being encouraged to accept this disease and live with it. We are being encouraged to accept its victims as just another person walking down the block or at eating ice cream. While individuals whom have become diagnosed with HIV/AIDS are indeed victims, it is implausible to accept this hydra-like disease as your life-partner. AIDS is a man-made killer that has no known antidote. It breaks down the human immune system so as to allow the body indefensible. Hence it invites its victims to dance with death, but the time and date to that grim ceremony is unknown. The slow and unexpected death is excerbated by the astronomical cost that is left behind. If ever there was a silent killer, this is it.

What I'm trying to say here is that people shouldn't simply accept this monster as a fact of life. Everyone should work hard to prevent it from spreading. We can all do this by having safe sex, using condoms, among other things. I think that by promoting AIDS as a fact of life, the erst-while promoters of good health may be playing a dangerous psychological game.

I don't think anybody would argue with you there. I think all they're trying to say on those posters you see is "if you have it already, panicking will do you no good. Be logical about it, and do what you need to do to continue living your life with this disease."

We can do it by stop having anything. At least i know i can't get it 100% sure. There is so many advantages you can't even name them all in your whole life time of never doing anything like that.

johnjohn320, you may be right. But the way in which they're advertised makes AIDS look warm and fuzzy. There's got to be a better way to make those that have it conditionally accept while putting the fear of God in those that don't.

what's with the jokes and perception of sexual innuendos (Turin, your preference should stay in the closet)? This is a serious point I made and the thread shouldn't be locked because of giddy teens making insipid remarks.

Including you (or me) being infected. There are so many ways to get HIV it is impossible for anyone to be 100% sure they will never get it. Have a bad accident, require a blood transfusion, there is the "hit by lightning" chance that the blood could be tainted. You sound deluded.

AIDS is a man-made killer

Really? Have you been on some conspiracy pages or has some new information come out recently.

Dari, please don't call me a Nazi or racist this time just because I asked a question!

They always try to tell kids in cartoons and stuff that it is okay to touch them and stuff. While I would treat them the same, and talk to them the same I wouldn't touch them or let my kids touch them. I know some of you will say there is almost no risk unless you both have open wounds, but I don't want to take the risk.

Etech, I was once an intern at Rockefeller University studying the pathogens of Multiple Sclerosis. During my stay there, I met several researchers studying HIV/AIDS. They said it was a genetically engineered disease made of the worst components of the combining bovine leukemia virus (BLV) and sheep visna virus (OLV) with some human element. This is no conspiracy. The history of AIDS is well documented and known (especially outside the United States). It started out as a defense project in the late 1960s (early 1970s). I don't want to get into too much detail because it all sounds too conspirational to believe, but you know what they say: fact is weirder than fiction (or something to that effect).

Your're going to have to do better then "they said" before I would place any credance to that story.

You have proof of this? Do you have links and references?

You want Proof? Google it. Do a search of bovine leukemia virus and/or sheep visna virus and look at their symptoms in the respective animals. Then look at the symptoms in AIDS. Then think of the wonders of genetic engineering. You can add aids to your search you you may find several conspiracy theories and/or theories on the genesis of HIV/AIDS. But I can assure you that there is no official (or consistant) credible explanation on the beginning of this disease. The reason is pretty obvious (hint: it was man-made). There was no monkey biting man-sleeping with whore-blah blah blah BS.

You are the one making the statement that AIDS is man-made. It is up to you to prove it. Don't give me this crap that I have to do the research on my own. If you can't back up your BS then don't make false claims.

Christ, do you actually want me to put the words into google, find the links and and hand it to you on a silver broswer? If I give you links to sites that said aids was man-made, you would deem them conspiracies and dismiss them outright. But if you did some homework and studied the viruses I mentioned, including AIDS, then you can make your own judgement.

P.S. One of the researchers give me a little book by a doctor some time ago but I can't seem to find it. It explains in detail the evolution of HIV/AIDS and how there are different variants (e.g. the variations made by the French) of the disease. When I find the book, I'll post the name and author.
