Hi! I have an Acer Aspire 4830T-6678. I want to replace the HDD with an SSD. In every (generic) video tutorial I've seen they first take out the battery. However, my laptop has an embedded battery. What should I do in this case?

Basically, you have to get to the HDD itself. It varies between laptops, so you may not actually have to take out the battery. Try consulting a manual.

There's no information in the manual and support at Acer didn't want to tell me. Can there be any damage if I don't take it out to replace the HDD? (As a general rule, I mean) ie. do I always need to take out the battery before replacing anything for the components to be safe?

HDDs themselves are hot-pluggable, so no you don't need to take out the battery to replace it.

That being said, it really depends on the exact internals of your laptop and how you get to the HDD. There may be something else in the way that you would want to disconnect the battery to get at.
