I have scratched the undersurface of my PAL6035 when trying to get rid of the beloved patriot underneath. Minor and can easily be filled/smoothed out with thermal compound.
My temps still run at 36-37 idle and 40-41 under load with case temps of 22-24.

Should I buy a new HS or sand down the old one.

Yes yes I shououldnt have used a knife. :(

I would sand that one down and see if you can save it. If it doesn't work you can then buy a new one and only be out a little time for trying to save the old one.

same thing happened to my pal6035 (well, it just happened to get scratched, i didn't do it with a knife :) ). the scratches were very minor and after lapping it my temps dropped more then they were before. you don't have much to lose except a trip to the hardware store.

:D Thanks.
I will try sanding it down.
I also paln to try and get one of those loud GlobalWin fans and try that on the PAL and see how much it helps. And so I should not expect to hear much while the computer is on.......oh well what we do for a few degrees!
