Embarassing; a Start Menu folder on the desktop that WONT GO AWAY

I was fixing up my parent's laptop and all of the sudden a Start Menu folder appeared on the desktop and there's no way to get rid of it. I can't drag it to the recycle bin, if I right-click on it just asks me if I want to open or expand it.. I don't know what to do and it's driving me nuts. Anyone know how to get rid of this?
