I'm in the process of looking at different email services for my use. I'm currently using www.softhome.net
for my email service but at times i'm finding it's slow and unrealiable.

What email service would you recommend?

you'd have to pay for yahoo for download abilities. hotmail does it for free if you have outlook, but if you want a 2mb storage and loads of spam.

suggestion would be get your own domain. or pay a little extra for the yahoo storage. or if you want an @aptechgdn.com email account (one of my domains) PM me, i can set u up with pop/webmail.

this will start to sound like a broken record but the best way is to register a domain and server space and set up an e-mail server so your address would be you@jero.com or whatever you would want. This could be accessed through outlook or through the web using the control panel of your web host. this will cost like $20 a year

as for free services, try yahoo or gmail. both have web interfaces with plenty of space and both are free. in order to get pop3 you will need a third party program such as yahooPops or Popgoes the gmail (not sure if that is the correct name). However, I have found programs like these to not work well and would rather stick with the web interface.

finally, usually the best route to go is to use your internet service providers email.

How does one go about getting their own domain and hosting account?

Register a domain with either namecheap or godaddy. I always use godaddy, RossMan prefers namecheap. Then find a hosting account with a decent host. Ripplehost has $9.99/yr plans which would work great.

Thanks a lot man. I've always wondered about this but never really knew where to start researching.

First, of all you would need to buy a domain at a domain registrar, For example namecheap.com where domains cost $8.88 a year. Then you can PM me (or RossMAN) and we would be glad to host your domain for free if you plan on using it just for email.

I was on ripplehost for a while, but I like the support with Made2Own. Talk to Rick and see if he can set you up. :D

That sounds great. I'll do some more research on this tonight when I get home from work. Are there any references you'd recommend or should I find plenty of information at the domain registry sites?

minendo and DeviousTrap beat me to this again ;)

Personally I prefer NameCheap.com however GoDaddy.com is the #1 domain registrar and is ICANN Accredited.

You can register a domain and obtain web/email hosting for under $20/yr easily. Also the web/email hosting includes POP3 and pre-installed webmail.
