Email privacy concerns

I frequently send emails back and forth with family members and others that contain confidential financial information. We have been thinking of encrpyting our emails. Any suggestions for encrption software with the following priorities (ranked in descending order):
1) It must work and be seemless, or relatively seemless to use, if possible.

2) Simplicity of installation and use.

3) Anything free for personal use?

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but if you don't get any better ideas you might try Hushmail.
If the sender & reciever both use it, then the email is encrypted. And it's free but you only get 2MB of storage space on the free accounts.

I use PGP to encrypt e-mails and files if I feel they are worth encrypting

The software from PGP.com is very easy to use and configure and configures right with your e-mail client, and if you use webmail it will encrypt that as well. PGP.com's software is a 30 day trial, but I think after the 30 days it just wont automatically decrypt incoming e-mail but will still allow you to encrypt. I know there are other 3rd party free PGP software is out there so just run a google search and find one to your liking.

ugh, the best answer is to NOT use email for contain confidential financial information

if you have to do something, set up an SFTP where only you and the family members have the certificate

Most of us where I work use Thunderbird with Enigmail (uses GnuPG)
