Email Harassment

i'm not talking about spam, i'm talking about verbal abuse on a personal level, threats to personal mental wellbeing...kind of stalkerish because the email makes references to my friend's personal life...

i'm thinking of having my friend (victim being harassed) send an email to the ISP of the troublemaker but i'm not confident that anything will be done about it on the ISP's part 🙁

the email would contain the troublemaker's IP address, host address, times that the email was sent as well as the email headers...but the reply address has always been garbage..

i know i could totally abuse this person's IP and DoS them, but then i'd be in the wrong from a legal standpoint and according to the ISP's ToS any attempts are illegal, but i didn't see anything regarding personal harassment in the ToS 🙁

is there anything else i can/should do? i obviously wish to track this person down and slam their head thru the concrete, but i know i'll probably never find out who it is..

has anyone ever dealt with email harassment to the point of reporting the troublemaker to their ISP? what was the outcome?

Ever heard of deleting an email? It's that simple.

Or, you could email them html emails with big fat hairy guys humpin each other, now THAT's abuse.

heh...lemonparty, goatse, tubgirl?

i don't have the abuser's email...as i said, return address has always been garbage...fake...

i wish to take care of this from a legal standpoint tho, not from a short term satisfaction path by abusing them back...

that hasn't stopped them, this person has posted from different IPs...including dialup accounts...

has anyone had any experience in reporting it with positive outcomes? ie) shutting down the account

Well it cant hurt can it? Unless they go psycho and track you down?

It really should be possible to figure out who would hate your friend enough to do something like that. Get the police involved, they can get the ISP to cough up the name of the fvcknut if you can't figure it out on your own.

Net Send <IP> I KNOW WHO YOU ARE

This doesn't work, especially if they are behind a firewall which in this day and age, I hope they are 🙂

plus it wouldn't work anyway since they're on a different network...totally different B block..

Nothing would ruin the stalker's fun more than him not knowing if his emails are even being read. Think about it. If you were trying to harass someone, and never knew if it had any impact, what a waste of time that would be.

Delete the emails, and don't discuss them with anyone in case one of your friends is in on it. I think it will stop soon enough.

Forward the email to the police or FBI. making death threats in email is no different than doing it in person. It's illegal.

it still works..how do you think the spammers send 1000's of them

Just spread the word to everyone that you have the police involved as well as the emailer's ISP. That will get them shakin' in their booties 🙂
