Federal Judge Richard Ceball of Montana admits forwarding an email with the comment, "Normally I don't send or forward a lot of these, but even by my standards, it was a bit touching. I want all of my friends to feel what I felt when I read this. Hope it touches your heart like it did mine."

The "touching" joke he felt compelled to share?

"A little boy said to his mother; 'Mommy, how come I'm black and you're white?' His mother replied, 'Don't even go there Barack! From what I can remember about that party, you're lucky you don't bark!'"

Not everyone who opposes President Obama is a racist, but it appears very easy for racists to deny their own prejudices when he enters the picture.

"It was not intended by me in any way to become public," Cebull said. "I apologize to anybody who is offended by it, and I can obviously understand why people would be offended."

It's interesting that he's careful not to back down from calling Obama's mother a slut. It's the "I'm sorry you're offended" line.

I get that this guy is certainly entitled to his personal opinion, but I feel like once you're a figure in government that is by definition supposed to be impartial, a light bulb should go off in your head, telling you not to forward this email to all your friends.

Just a hunch here, but I'm guessing that this guy isn't going to get invited over for a beer summit.

(For what it's worth, the email seems to be saying that his mom had sex with everything in sight, not so much that black people are dogs.)

Is this where we are all supposed to pretend we don't find stereotype/race jokes funny?

If he is guilty of anything, it is for being dumbass.

Is this where we're supposed to pretend that people who enjoy offensive racist jokes are just plain folks?

edit: if you think that "joke" was so funny, I guess we know what group you fall into.

What I got out of that email is that his mom had sex with a dog at a party. I didn't find the joke racist at all. I think you'd have to have some reading comprehension problems to find racism there.

Got it. Nothing racist at all in the implication that any white woman who would fuck an African would just as easily fuck a dog.

That is the most bizarre use of the word 'touching' I have ever seen.

You're right about that.

When you dissect a joke that racist people find funny, it really doesn't even make sense at all. Ie, what does a dog have to do with anything? It sounds like it would be more offensive to people who watch bestial porn, if anything *shudder*

It seems you see what you want to see. May be time to look in the mirror.
Even the judge that forwarded the email said it was racist: "The only reason I can explain it to you is I am not a fan of our president, but this goes beyond not being a fan," Cebull said. "I didn't send it as racist, although that's what it is."

Rationalization is certainly strong when racism enters the picture.

Actually there are about 1000 jokes that I have seen floating around that are much more clever. I just don't pretend that stereotypes don't breed comedy. The one in the OP is just a bad joke all around.

Unless you think every fan of Pryor, Rock, Chappell, Daniel Tosh, Howard Stern, George Lopez, etc are all a bunch of Panthers or Neos......

Heck, even one of the "Cleanest" comedians of all time made his fortune on stereotypes.."You might be a redneck if..."

How is the OP racist?
Nothing racist at all in the implication that any white woman who would fuck an African would just as easily fuck a dog.
NO: the implication is that she doesn't know who the father is because she's a massive slut; The color is irrelevant to the joke, except that it's the president.

If it was black woman with a white baby would it also be racist: but this time because the black woman is a massive slut?

Is it possible that your seeing racism everywhere is a reflection of the racism you bring with you into every interaction?

Edit:
FUCK YOU bouchi, you racist fuck.

First, the joke is pretty funny as a political chain email jokes go. Second, telling or laughing at a racial joke doesn't make you a racist. Third, he should know that as a judge and a public figure he should never put this sort of thing in writing.

This. It hardly even qualifies as racist joke since it's not actually making fun of a race. It's a yo mamma joke.

Racism was definitely not evident in the joke when I read it. The punchline is that the mother is a slut without very discerning tastes.

Fail.
The joke only works with an equivalence between a dog and the father. "Fucking a dog = fucking the father." The father is black so how is the low quality of fucking a dog not equated to fucking a black man? And you have the additional, "LOL, black kids don't know who their fathers are."

The joke doesn't work outside of a racist/negative stereotype context:
"Mom, why do I have brown eyes and you have blue?" "Son, don't go there. From what I remember of that party you're lucky you're not color blind and have a penchant for chasing after balls."

See, it fucking sucks. It still says she's a slut but it says nothing about the father and so we have no transfer to the son. Brown is dominant so all it says is that she didn't specifically choose for blue... but that says nothing about the quality of the brown-eyed man who ended up as his father.

"Mom, why am I so much better than you at theoretical physics?" "Son, don't go there. I was at this party with Einstein and Heisenberg and Oppenheimer, but from what I remember of it you're lucky you don't bark."

Still a slut but again little transfer to the child. There's no negative stereotype attached to being talented in the field of theoretical physics so the "joke" just ties him to some of the greatest minds of the last century and goes nowhere else.

"Mom, why am I the best President in the last 50 years?" "Well, Barack, the Bible shows us that God occasionally impregnates married women. The archangel Gabriel confirms, so let's chalk it up to you being the Son of God and the Messiah."

See, if we move on to the mother being an adulteress to isolate the mother's behavior, we just don't have the same transfer as we see in the OP. It just doesn't have the same bite.
(this is fun!)

Disagree with everything DominionSeraph said.

The joke struck me as a "yo mamma" joke.

Kid: Why do I have brown hair and you have blond hair?
Mom: Don't get me started, from what I remember of that party you're lucky you don't have spots and a tail.

I guess if you want to see it in terms of race, that's your prerogative. But I'd say that makes you the racist.

No, you're doing very badly at this (about as nice as I can say it).

First, the joke is about Obama - it names him.

Second, the joke does make an issue of Obama's race. As I've established before, the punch line doesn't have to be explicitly insulting to the race to be racist.

That's why so many jokes involve punch lines just mentioning something like friend chicken or watermelons - things like that might not be explicitly racist, but they trigger the 'superiority' reaction in the racist reader. Who cares if blacks like fried chicken more than whites? But showing a black getting all excited about fried chicken is a way of being racist, 'ha ha look at that darky go for that fried chicken'. It's almost code. There's no point or humor to such a joke EXCEPT to be racially insulting.

Third, the joke's punch line is to insult Obama's mother more than anything, but blacks as well.

It paints him as not coming from married parents but from a party's wild promiscuous random sex where she had sex with a black stranger who fathered the child as well as a dog. The punch line is both 'the President's mother conceived the president at an inter-racial and bestial sex orgy party', as well as 'Obama's father was a black man who impregnated a white stranger at a wild inter-racial bestial sex party'.

That is also playing upon black stereotypes of a 'black man who makes children with strangers'.

All in all it's a highly offensive attack on the president's parents and therefore the president, as well as racist.

Gotta laugh at the posters saying it's not racist when *the judge himself said it is*.

Seems to men this is a reflection on the caliber of people Bush appointed to the bench - a 'good old boy' who would fit right in with Rich 'N*****head' Perry.

Sad to say, the guy was confirmed with no votes against him in the Senate - and yet the right whined horriibly when Democrats blocked something like 4 out of 200 nominees.

After they had just blocked all kinds of Clinton nominees.

The rules of conduct are pretty clear in that judges are held to higher standards than us peons. But this judge's conduct violates even the standards of common decency.

Let me ask you this-if an attorney told the joke, but slightly modified so that it showed a picture of the judge's mother, do you think this judge would hesitate at all in filing bar charges and/or holding the attorney in contempt of court?
