I currently have outlook express: it sucks. ppl have recommended netscape messenger - do I have to install netscape browser to use messenger or can I download the standalone program?

also, what are some other good (as in non buggy, convienant, easy to use but still powerful) email programs?

Netscape sucks even worse than Outlook Express, don't use that. Outlook 2000 is pretty kickass :D

Outlook 2000 here. I like it. Then again I liked Outlook Express, too.

Go figure.

Pine? The only people who use Pine are those that want to prove they're Geeks.

I use a program called poco. I like the user interface a lot; I don't know how powerful it is.

Pegasus Mail (here). Small, flexible, and extremely powerful... I have over 250MB of mail stored in various folders (4 years worth) and it never skips a beat. Excellent filtering rules, massively customizeable, and FAST. What more could you want? :)

thanks guys...although more input is still welcomed.

some pet peeves of outlook express is that it acts so unpredictable:

1) in v5.5, it crashes like a kamikaze pilot all the time.
2) it would always prompt me to enter my password for my hotmail accts but I did set it to remember my pw
3) often one of my hotmail acct has the same emails as my other..I dont' know how to explain it better
4) I hate the stupid ad at the bottom.
5) for one of my hotmail acct, it always has to redownload every message despite the fact that I checked the "synchronize this acct" box.

I dont' like outlook because it's too bloated and the interface is cluttered. but if I get desperate, I might have to use it.

also, I have two more questions:

1) can I use my hotmail accts with eudora, poco, or anything else not by MS?
2) what are some free email provider out there that has a POP3 acct (meaning I can use email clients with it) besides yahoo and hotmail?

oh, and another pet peeve:

6) I can't seem to send yahoo emails with OE while with poco I can - I think this is a MS conspiracy.

I'm trying out poco right now..and will d/l eudora, pegasus, and pine.

I use a program called calypso, been using it for years, works in all flavors of windows, had some troubles with it and the program writer whipped up a little util to help me out, I had no question about registering it after that and have been using it ever since.

Poco is sweet. I love the simplicity and the interface (which can be highly customized via skins). Problem is, its not free :( Gotta scrape up some money to register..

I gotta go with Pegasus mail, it allows you to check multiple POP3 addresses via one "user" or by having each one be it's own "user", fast, enough options to make a car dealer envious, easy for the beginner to learn, easy for an advanced user to customize.

although I just asked this question a minute ago, ppl probably overlooked it:

can hotmail be used with non-MS email clients? if it can, what is the POP server and SMTP server?

Whats wrong with Netscape Messenger?

It's simple
If you use Netscape browser you don't have to have it open to check your mail unlike Outlook

It supports HTML

It's the only browser/e-mail client supported by the Department of Defense ;) SUO will back me up on that even though he's a trader

I've been using Outlook 2000. I think it's better than Eudora Pro 4.1. Poco looks cool, too bad it's not free. :(

From a frequent network admin Eudora is the most friendly. All you need is the software installed and a link to your profiles and saved email/folders which can be off on some far away server somewhere and your set. Email, profiles, filters ect.. are all saved and never have to be reset.

Eudora v4.3.2 is what I use right now at home but we have a standard at the office of Outlook 2000 which works great for an office setting for its Calender and Exchange Client MAPI usage. Way more than a home user needs. One problem you have is that you use Hotmail eww.. I would recommend moving to a real Email provider that has pop access for most clients don't intergrate with Hotmail and well.. hotmail is suck :)
