Email clients are useless/useful - take your pick

Let's keep this to personal computers. I know at your work you probably have a client setup by your company or by you.

I've always gone back and forth between a client (such as Outlook or Thunderbird) and the actual email account. Right now I'm on the account.

If you vote client, please mention which one you use.

I guess it depends. When it was a choice between accessing my school's email through the crap web-interface and Thunderbird, it was Thunderbird hands down. But then I started using gmail a lot more and just forwarded my school e-mail to my gmail account. Stopped using Thunderbird shortly after that and pretty much only use the web-interface of Gmail.

I use windows mail and outlook. I like being able to access my mail without navigating to a site.

I have Windows Mail on Vista Basic, and able to check my email without visiting my email client's website.

Useful. I use Outlook because I know whatever phone I buy is guaranteed to be able to sync up and import contacts. I'm leary of keeping all of my personal contacts' phone numbers, emails, and other info on a web-based provider like Gmail.

Well, I don't use email for any important business type stuff, but I just don't see the point in a email program. I open Firefox and hit my Gmail tab at the top, no harder than opening your email client. Gmail does all I need it too and more so by the day.

I use the gmail directly. Email client would suck because I access my email from two different computers pretty regularly (main PC and my laptop when I'm out and about) and I want to have access to all emails.

Besides, one less thing to worry about backing up if/when I reload windows due to hardware changes and whatnot.

I like to be able to use my mail offline. I use my main rig as the master computer, and email is removed from the server when I get my messages. All of my other computers, I leave the messages on the server.

I used to use Outlook Express till Vista. Then there was Windows Mail, worst thing ever. Then I tried Outlook 2007, just as bad. So I switched to Thunderbird and it is tons better.

That's pretty much my experience. My school uses iPlanet and it sucks. Gmail FTW. I particularly like how it keeps all related messages together.

This, except I only have one computer (home desktop) and my work computer and it's STILL too useful to have Gmail. The web interface is one of the best out there, and it's fast.

Outlook is great, when you can use it.
For Hotmail and Yahoo you have to pay for POP3 access. That sucks.

My college uses GMAIL and its been very convenient. From one place I can get my instructor feedback and keep up with my assignments and tests & stuff.

yeah i just use gmail. i dont do anything really private with my mail, but its easier to keep it in gmail rather than have to back it up or whatever.

i can see how a client is useful for lots of people, but its not something i need.
