I helped my uncle purchase an emachines 433i a few months ago and now it will not turn off until he unplugs it and it will turn on immediately when he plugs it back in. If he shutdown from the start menu, it would reboot after shutting down.
I'm pretty experienced at building systems and my guess is that the power supply is broken. I disabled Advanced Power Mgmt in the bios and then I was able to shutdown in windows and hit the power switch. All the components turned off except for something inside the power supply which was still emitting a high pitched noise. This didn't go away until the computer was unplugged. When the computer is plugged back in, it will turn on automatically.
I've seen other posts about this problem with emachines and was wondering if someone had resolved it yet.
I'm currently planning to just buy a new case w/ power supply and move the components over.
btw, please don't tell me "emachines is suck", I already know that.
Thanks in advance for any help.
