Emachine 6811 wireless problem

I have my notebook in my house and I run it wireless off my router upstairs. Everything has always been working fine. This weekend I went away and the house I connected to had a cable modem. I plugged their modem into my notebook and away i went. When I got home I could not connect to the internet via wireless. I have taken my notebook to various hotspots that I have used in the past and nothing works, just says no wireless connection available. Did I screw something up by connecting to the cable modem? My router in the house is fine, it is broadcasting just fine. My wife is able to connect to it via her notebook. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Remove the Network Connection set up for the cable modem you had it connected to. It can be found in Control Panel -> Network Connections
