...interesting, the stock photo label says 'assembled in USA.' My first thought is it's a rebrand... but I guess they would have to define 'assembled.'

It's packaged like an OCZ...

If I were buying, I too would be more comfortable with established brand SSDs. OTH, Eluktronics Inc seems to be a legit US company located in Delaware. As I read their tea leaves, they do not manufacture components, but buy and assemble them. Their reviews look decent. But, caveat emptor.

They're not located in Delaware, only incorporated there. (Common for corporations.)

Their phone number begins with 302, where is that?

Area Code 302 is Delaware. Specifically, Newark, Delaware. They must at least have a phone booth there.

They might assemble those SSDs at their facility, but judging by their website and the looks of their building, I would guess they are more of a reseller.

Hi everyone,

I hope you don't mind my stepping in to address some of your concerns. Our company operates out of Newark DE, but the SSD itself is assembled in Texas. The flash utilized generally varies between the big three: Micron, Samsung & SK Hynix. Roughly 75% of our flash derives from Asia (just as any other SSD) and 25% is from a fab plant in the USA. So in answer to your question about assembly, most of our flash comes from Asia and everything is physically assembled in the USA. The majority of our hard drives produced actually go in to a brand new laptop before shipping out to the customer. If you type "Eluktro SSD" in to Amazon's search engine, it will provide results of laptops that come equipped with our hard drive and RAM internally. I personally think Amazon's verified reviews are a great way to see the quality of a seller and product. Customer service and quality are two things on which we've built our reputation. If you have any questions, please just let me know.

Thank you!

stay away from any Sandforce based controller SSD, they suck in real world performance, they are only good with compressed data, which most are files aren't compressed...... that's why Kingston advertises their SSDs as "the above speeds were achieved with ATTO Disk Benchmark" since ATTO uses compressed data for the test. But when you try copying large files, you will see that 500 MB/S advertised speed drop down to 170 MB/S

The only files that don't compress well are videos and archives. The rest of the files compress very well.
As for SF controller, they did have issue before, but, from everything I have read, they have fixed pretty much all problems.

I am just wondering how you found this thread... it seems a bit odd that someone asks about your SSD, then, you show up.

But, since you are here... is it the generic firmware that you use, or do you have the personnel to tweak it ?

I am also wondering why people should try your line of products, instead of Crucial, or Toshiba, or Samsung or another big OEM. What makes your product stand out from the other "me too" clones out there ?

Elixer,

Thank you for providing that information regarding the SF controller... We have just started offering the 250GB & 500GB Pro drives at a loss point on Amazon to try and reach consumer attention. Since the sale, I have been filtering Google search results within a 24 hour period for our drive and this anandtech forum post was a result I've been watching. My intent as the CEO is to be very hands on with our customers. We certainly are not one of the "big" guys, nor are we trying to be like them. It's very difficult to say why someone should try our brand if they've had good experience with others. However, I believe an SSD offering up to 560MB/sec read & 515MB/sec write speeds is a notch above the industry standard for one. Yes, that is an ATTO rating, but if you refer to the MX100 someone mentioned earlier, the ATTO sequential writes are below 350MB/s. Another aspect I've grown tired of over my years in the tech industry is speaking with a support team who simply reads from prompts. We are installing our hard drives and RAM inside new laptops and offering technical support for the entire product. What you should receive from us is no hoops to jump through, no prompts and no hassle. In order to offer the lowest over provisioning of 250GB & 500GB, we have to use special flash and firmware. Keep 'em coming!

OK, one more question from me...
In the event of a RMA on your SSD, do you ship back a refurbished unit, like Samsung, or do you ship back a new unit, like Toshiba ?
If it is a refurbished unit, what is refurbished about it, is it just the NAND that is new, and the guts are from some other RMA, or do you reuse NAND chips ?

Great question... In the event your drive needs to be replaced within the three year warranty, a brand new SSD will be supplied. However, receiving a new replacement will not extend the original warranty. The product is covered for three years from the date of your initial receipt. OTH, our RAM comes with a lifetime warranty which will also be replaced with a new dimm if it faults. To expedite the exchange process, the customer can put a deposit down for the product. The deposit allows us to dispatch the new replacement before receiving the faulty equipment. A prepaid label would come inside the box with the replacement so you could slap the label on top of ours and simply place it in your mailbox. So long as the product shows no signs of tampering or ADH, a full refund will be issued to the deposit.

Thanks!

-William

I can only comment on the Intel version of the sf controller and it is the fastest ssd I've ever run, faster than my Samsung 840 pro 256. I had reservations about going back to sf after several bad experiences with their 12xx controllers but the Intel version of it runs great and I wouldn't hesitate to use them in anything I have.
