Elton John plays the race card; American Idol racist!

Elton John: 'Idol' vote is 'racist'

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- British rock star Elton John, a guest judge this month on the U.S. talent hunt TV series "American Idol," said on Tuesday that he found the voting by the national viewing audience "incredibly racist."

John, who heard the wannabe pop stars perform his songs during an appearance on the Fox TV show, added his voice to a chorus of dissent that followed last week's shock exit of black vocalist Jennifer Hudson, considered one of the top talents among those vying for a recording contract.

"The three people I was really impressed with, and they just happened to be black, young female singers, and they all seem to be landing in the bottom three," said John, commenting on the tally in which the lowest vote-getter is eliminated.

"They have great voices. The fact that they're constantly in the bottom three -- and I don't want to set myself up here -- but I find it incredibly racist," John said at a news conference promoting his Radio City Music Hall concert backed by an orchestra of students from London's Royal Academy of Music and The Juilliard School of New York.

The show often gets more than 20 million people voting.

The other two singers grouped in the bottom three of the seven remaining "American Idol" finalists last week were La Toya London and Fantasia Barrino.

The results moved show host Ryan Seacrest to remind viewers that the series was a talent hunt and not a popularity contest.

"America, don't forget you have to vote for the talent," Seacrest said before closing the show. "You cannot let talent like this slip through the cracks."

Fox Television declined to comment.

Ruben Studdard, a black crooner, won the top prize last year.

So...the American populace doesn't agree with your assessment, Elton John, and are therefore...all racists. Well, that makes sense.

All along, I thought I was alone in this world 🙂 Welcome to the realm of reason, sir.

How quickly these race card fools forget that a black guy won last season.

I think the big issue here is that the 3 black girls that were left last week all have very BAD personalities. Fantasia is everything that I hate about load, obnoxious black women all rolled up into one annoying package. The Jennifer girl who got the boot last week, though she can wail, was too goofy looking when she sang to make people want to call in and keep her face around for another week. Then the last one, I think her name is LaToya, is in my opinion, the best of the 3, but still very devoid in the personality area and boring to watch.

Race, my ass, they just aren't very good. As for the terribly untalented red haired kid advancing every week, sounds like the demographics show that teen-aged white girls simply call in a sh!t load of votes for him every week. These are the same girls that bought about 3 million Clay Aiken records putting the winner, Ruban's sales to shame.

Sure, the fans aren't racist. But white teenage girls make up most of the fans of American Idol. It's not a stretch to see that last year's winner was a black Man, while those who exited this year are black Women. So I'm thinking that the whiteys thought that Ruben Studdard was "oh so sexy," while they don't think that of women who are black. You see this in daily life - a lot of white girls like black guys, but they feel threatened by black women.

I agree with leeboy. I don't see where black women and their lousy personalities and stupid looks should expect people to focus on their supposed talent. I can tell you right now that people with talent act like me.

I know many dozens of white girls, and have yet to hear any of them, either directly spoken or through gossip, say that they consider a 400lb black tub of lard 'sexy.' They'll all to busy getting frothy over Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt. If I hear one more girl spout off about Troy, I'm gonna puke.

🙂 I am really trying to say that sometimes talent is not enough to win a popularity contest. Which is what this contest is when you let us dumb American's decide the winner LOL

I'm trying to say what leeboy is saying. Black guys are popular to white girls, black girls aren't. Just like high school.

What I could not phathom the week before last why Fantasia was allowed to have her kid placed in her arms at the end of her performance. Hello, I have a couple kids and I could really use the money... ??? I would have been f'ing livid if I were one of the other contestants. How can you compete against that sympathy lasso? I think why the red head kids keeps making it every week is what Simon said last night, he really isn't that talented but he has handled every bash and critisism they have throw his way like a gentleman. People are evidently responding to that. What an honorable trait that seems to be lost on most of the contestants that flip out when they are told the truth.

I get it now. Galt is saying that Americans are morons who judge superficially and Mr. John should button up his stupid lip because he should know that. That's what constitutes true reason.

Your mirror is in need of calibration again, Moonie; Galt is not saying anything of that kind.

Poor Galt. Getting dissed for my post! My apologies 🙂 Moon? Simply put, human nature and personal choice dictates the winner. This competition really has only one main purpose, to make money. The have judges who do not decide the outcome, but do lend their opinions and we are supposed to agree or disagree with them. I have watched the show religiously since the first season however, have yet to bother picking up a phone and calling in a vote. But people DO in fact call in their votes, to the tune of 10+ million every week. If the most talented person in a competition voted by an American viewing audience does not win, is that MY fault? I am just stating my opinions that if this is the case and John keeps staying, it is because young girls have obviously stated their like of him, regardless of whether or not he can sing, and that some NON teen age girls will still vote for him because he is a nice guy and respects his elders. What a fool he is for bighting his tongue! Whatever you say.

Why would you concern yourself with what he thinks?

Being called a racist is tough to deal with. While I haven't voted on, or even watched the show recently, I'm still a bit offended by his comments.

It's not like he is an offical representative of anyone but himself. So he thinks Americans are racist. Okay, I for one don't really care what his opinion is.

Why is so hard to see they split the vote?
3 black girls sing virually the same, split the vote 3 ways amongst them?
The others bring something different to the plate.
Look at last year, the top 3 two black one white, and the black ones were different genders.
To say its not a popularity contest and to vote on talent is BS
How many times has Cowell said , you can sing great but you don't have 'insert here' to make it as a Pop star.
Elton get yer head outa yer arse:roll:

OK OK, now I get it. Elton Jon is a moron because he thinks that the reason the people with the most talent in a talent show are loosing is because it's more a popularity show than a talent show and popularity and what is judged popular never enclude factors such as race because a black guy won last year and white girls are only bigoted against black women which makes it a gender issue as well. Geez I hope this one is right. It's brutal to try to figure out what somebody means whose reluctant to commit his thoughts to post.
