Elton John and his civil partner David Furnish have announced they are proud parents to a healthy baby boy.

Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John weighed 7lb 15oz and was 22 inches long at birth.

He was born via a surrogate mother in California on Christmas Day.

'We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,' Sir Elton and Furnish said in a joint statement.

Proud parents: Sir Elton John and David Furnish seen shopping in Beverly Hills last week. They are now parents to a healthy baby boy

'Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.'
The couple made their surprise announcement to U.S. magazine Us, saying that out of respect for the surrogate mother's privacy they would not be disclosing any further information

Sir Elton, 62, married Furnish, 48, in 2005 after 12 years together.
Zachary is a first child for both.

His middle name Levon is the title of a song from Sir Elton's 1971 album Madman Across The Water.

While the surrogacy came as a surprise to fans of the couple, the pair have previously made their wish to become fathers known.

They first attempted to adopt an HIV positive child from the Ukraine last year, but were rejected because of Sir Elton's age and the fact that the country did not recognise civil marriages.

horrible.

he's going to be dead before his kid graduates high school (or worse, wracked with dementia).

it also kinda bothers me when couples who can't have children naturally spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars having a baby in a lab instead of adopting.

Did you even read the story or just rant on the headline? :hmm:
They tried to adpot but were turned down.

They tried to adopt a kid nobody else would, yet were turned down.

they tried to adopt from a country where gay adoption isn't legal while living in a country where it is :\

and Elton John's age was also a factor, which it should have been. can you imagine being an 18 year-old kid with an 80 year-old dad who's got dementia and is shitting his pants?

He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas Day

:D I think he chose Levon for the middle name just to beat everyone to the punch. I was like "lolomg Elton John had a kid?? He shall be Levon....oh, wait. He shall be Levon. fuck."

I never understood the "In tradition with the family plan" lyric. What the hell does that mean?

My roommate was born on Christmas and his initials are J.C. He likes to share the story of J.C with us every Christmas.
