edit: just to mention many think UFC is MMA. no. Both UFC and EliteXC are just promotions. both have REAL MMA fighters.

welp, there goes the gina/cyborg fight i was eagerly anticipating. and to think elitexc held off on that fight because they wanted to sell it on ppv early next year. hopefully it still happens soon with another promotion. they knew they were on the ropes, why not give fans the fight that they were asking for before packing it in?

MMA is mixed martial arts in general. UFC is the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which is a company that sponsors/promotes their MMA fighters.

well the diffrence is UFC is a promoter and MMA is a sport. they promote fights with MMA fighters.

if a person is in a diffrent promotion (EliteXC) they are still real MMA fighters (granted lower skilled ones. UFC seems to snag the best..well tries to).

edit: and it looks from that article that the UFC wants nothing to do with Kimbo. I hope, however, they pick up Nick Diaz.

I have seen some UFC and Elite XC stuff....and I'm still not getting how it is "MMA" at all.

Mostly seems like kickboxing with some grappling thrown in.

Dana has said he wouldnt do a lot of things he turns around and does. but i agree its very very doubtfull he gets slice. only thing he has going for him is name recongnation.

though wouldnt be surpised to see him fight in the ufc and get schooled by another no name guy. As i said he has said faber would just beat the fuck out of him (i do agree faber is amazing) and would pay to see that fight.

Also since Zuffa (who owns UFC) owns the WEC for promoting mostly its lower weight class fights (there's a few overlaps) I think they should start a womens class in the WEC. Also we need to see Urijah Faber fight BJ Penn either at 145 or 155. That would be epic.

ohh eyah BJ and Faber? that would be great. i would give it to BJ though. he schooled Jen and jen had a good fight with faber he came close to winning.

I also agree WEC should get the women fighters. i so want to see Ciborg/Corana fight

I don't know what you are expecting then. Most fighters train in (forgive the spelling): wrestling, muay tai, boxing, kickboxing, judo, jiu jitsu, sambo and probably a lot more that I haven't heard of. How much more mixed martial arts are you expecting?

I mean you aren't going to see widely varying styles like Blood Sport any more. Over the last 10 years, the fighting has evolved and the best techniques have bubbled to the top. So the fighters use what works.

Sucks for Carano. Too bad Dana White isn't keen on women's MMA (although her drawing power might make him reconsider).

I don't care about Slice though. Lesnar at least has the background, ambition, and potential to be good. Frank Mir seems to think pretty highly of him which says a lot in my book.

lol @ tito. "yeah were in the final stages of getting the contract details ironed out. i cant wait to get back in the ring." you may just want to hang on a little bit longer there buddy.

and i agree, i think the wec should start up a womans division. and hopefully we finally get 5 minute rounds. and considering that after the event on december 3rd they're scrapping the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions, it would be nice to have it added in there.

Kimbo will probably go to Affliction, he's still a huge draw. Gina can stop not making weight now, she wasn't that good of a fighter any ways. She couldn't ever even make weight, except for the last fight where she had to get completely naked just to barely squeak by. Fuck her, she also didn't even know the name of the submission she attempted a few fights ago. She's overrated and Cyborg would have smashed her badly. She definitely got saved.

Seth's KO of Kimbo was a weird fluke, not saying he's a top fighter cos he's not. But from interviews I've seen, and knowing how hard he trains, I like the guy. And would like to see him fight more as his skill set improves. Bas still is standing behind Kimbo, you couldn't really ask for a better coach and mentor.

EXC didn't make it because they lost money, they drew huge numbers but you can't compete against UFC. It's sort of like how almost every sound card I had that wasn't from Creative went under (PAS16, GUS Max, Vortex 2)

EXC had some great fighters, Lawler, Cung Le, Baroni. They were doomed from the start you can't exist as long as UFC is around, and they'll be around forever.

Affliction is next.

and to Ocguy31 it should have been the other way around, Bisping isn't that good and Leben just couldn't catch his running ass.
